they traded away all their young guys and assets to win now for years. They had a new young core of Coyle, Nino, Zucker, etc but they refused to keep on building through the draft etc. They blocked the growth of their younger guys bc of all the aging players they acquired. They locked themselves into bad contracts trying to win now trading for older guys (like Kessel) then lose a guy like Tuch in the expansion draft bc they couldn't protect him with all the NMC they gave out.

You know exactly what I said what would be the issue with Kessel NMC in his last year of his contract, but hey keep on trying to troll, you might figure it out one day

Who are you worried that they wouldn't be able to protect in the expansion draft?

its 2 years out, you dont know that yet but they point is you might lose a good young forward bc you have Kessel and his NMC blocking it. Its just smart roster management minimizing your NMC coming up into the expansion draft, especially a guy who would be 35 and 1 year left on his contract that you arent going to keep beyond that last year.

like I said hes a a bad fit on Colorado when you look at his holistically, its not rocket science here

Any young player the Avs get between now and then would be exempt from the expansion draft. Really they would only need to worry about the current roster. And they will only have Landeskog with a nmc unless they give one to rantannen.

Why not? Denver is a great place!

hahaha right, just bc you say that doesnt mean its true,

It is. But Panarin wouldn’t sign there, duchene wouldn’t come back, and Colorado wouldn’t go for karlsson. Those are the 3 big UFAS. Big drop after that

Do you really think kerfoot or whoever they take with the 1st rounder is better now, or will ever be better than Kessel now? Or that those two pieces will be a better help to Colorado winning a championship than Kessel?

It’s the D that they have to worry about, girard makar EJ are Locked up, that leaves Barrie to protect, if he’s re signed or if he’s traded they have a young forward coming back in a trade

This is not hard to understand, what ever they do with Barrie impacts which stream they go in protection. But either 4-4 or 7-3 kessel and nmc would hurt them.

So once again no on kessel, it’s bad roster management to
Trade for a guy with a nmc and will be 35 at the time of the expansion draft

So you are more concerned with the expansion draft and losing a player in a few years than winning?

Its not being short sighted, you don't spend years rebuilding an org, top to bottom from the prospect pool to the NHL roster just to unload the clip trying to win in the next season or 2 (when they have 4-5 years of a window)

Moves like Kessel that impacts an expansion draft just close their window faster, why put themselves behind the 8ball for no reason, bc other fan bases who down follow the Avs think they should?

How is that unloading the clip? They would be trading a middle of the lineup center and a middle first round pick for a top line winger and a backup goalie that is just as good as any other backup goalie in their system. They really aren't giving up much of anything in that scenario. They still have plenty of young center prospects and the 4th overall pick in this year's draft. They will not be set back by a move like that in anyway. At some point they will be making a move like that. That's what teams who win do. To worry about an expansion draft years down the road is ridiculous and poor management. The roster will change drastically by then anyways.

16th overall, Kerfoot, and you lose a Young Dman or a Young forward at the draft in 2 years for maybe a good season of Kessel and his NMC before he's declines (he put up points with Kessel and Malkin, whats he going to do on a. 2nd line with Jost?. Its not had to figure this out, its a short sighted bad trade for the Avs, it makes 0 sense today and into the future.

You aren't goign to change the majority of Avs fans mind on this, it goes against everything Sakic has been building and goes against what Bednar is doing on the ice.

First off, you have no idea what you will or will not lose in the expansion draft in 2 years. You have no idea what the roster will look like by then. If it is the same as now, then the Avs will not be winning anytime soon. To build a roster based of that in anyway this far in advanced is the absolute worst way a GM can do so.

Kessel played a lot of his time in Pittsburgh on the 3rd line. It is very evident that he preforms best when he is the premier player on his line. Don't think of what Kessel can do with Jost as his center Think what Jost can do with kessel as his winger.

You seem to be the only Avs fan chosing this as the hill to die on. Most have said it is a good trade and they would welcome it for certain.
