You get out of Zaitzev a 5-6 RHD and get a legitimate top 4 RHD for less money. In what world is that an overpayment. Count you blessing and take it if the Oilers will make that deal.

As for Ottawa Marleau has a 3 million dollar signing bonus to be paid after the buyout window ends, if Ottowa is buying him out Toronto can't pay that Bonus.

I think your value is spot on here. I don’t know if that convinces Edmonton to take on more term though. Both players seem to need a fresh start. Larsson certainly wasn’t better than zaitsev last season. I think a 2nd or 3rd to make up for the extra money and term seems reasonable.

He certainly was not. Deployment has a lot to do with it. I would say that he was the best defencemen in our end. What was it... 94% d zone starts. Top line assignments, penalty killing... babysitting. No wonder the guy wants out.

Also, there are a few teams interested in zaitsev. Current ask is a bottom pairing Dman, mid pick and a prospect.
