I wonder how Isles fans would react to their captain leaving the team for home town team in FA for nothing

Probably better than Leafs fans reaction to hometown boy Marner signing with a team willing to pay him what he’s worth, instead of a team trying to lowball him because they signed a player they didn’t need last offseason.

LOL Keep him if he is worth 4 1sts lmao McDavid isnt worth that much possibly.. he isnt worthy of money for the highest paid winger. Everything suggests 9 is the figure that it should start with.

LOL, best part about these AGMs is Leafs fans who think a 90 point player who put up career highs in all categories, has improved his totals every year, is only 21 AND has led his team in points (read as, more points than better players on the team 2 years in a row) isn’t going to get paid.

Skinner who had 30 points less than Marner and is 5/6 years older just got 9m, if you think Marner isn’t getting at least 11m your delusional.

Skinner got 9mil for goals. Scored double the amount of Marner. Marner has more points but not more goals. He deserves 9.5-10. Tavares elevated his game to another level. I think you get what I want to say.

Skinner scored 40 goals, Marner scored 26.... that’s hardly double the amount of goals for Skinner. And, before last season Tavares had never scored more than 38 goals in a season. Also, in his career, Tavares had only surpassed Mariners 70 points from 2 years ago 3 times... so one could easily argue it was Marner who elevated Tavares’ game.

Lastly, the argument of “he scores goals so he gets more money” is ridiculous. 90 points is 90 points no matter how he got it. Plus a guy with 65+ assists a year makes the players around him better, which is exactly what the Isles need for guys like Barzal, Nelson, Beauvilier, Bailey and Ehlers (in this scenario) so he’s worth the price if he elevates one of those guys like he did Tavares.

You’re clearly someone who is just angry that signing Tavares last year is likely going to cost you a better player this year, so there is not point in arguing with you anymore.

Tavares elevates game and point totals of his winger by circa 25-30%.. there are many examples of this throughout the years and you as Isles fan should know that. Marner is best winger Tavares has eever played with but still Marner isnt worth as much as Tavares or Matthews and its not even close.

That argument might be ridiculous, but its what NHL GMs do! Skinner, JVR etc etc.. Tavares elevated Marners game not opposite. First 90+ point season suddenly when playing with Tavares the whole damn time.. cmon.. Marner is not better than Tavares tears of joy Im not angry that we signed one of the best centermen in the league for fair amount of value. Why would I be? LOL

Yes, being an Islanders fan I know exactly the type of player Tavares is. He’s a great player, but he is just as much a product of his wingers and they are of him. Go and look at years when he wasn’t playing with Lee or Bailey and he’s a 60-70 point player (same as Marner). It wasn’t until he started playing with a playmaker in Bailey that he became an 80 point guy. So, the argument still stands, you take Marner off his wing and he doesn’t score 47 goals... but you guys will figure that out when Marner leaves.
