Description
Yes, the Canucks could be busy this offseason.

First, the UFA signings: Nyquist is a top 6 forward and that is something the Canucks need. They have the cap space and are getting closer to being a playoff team. Obviously there's no way to know if he's interested in signing with Vancouver, but there's no way to know if he's interested in signing with other teams, either. Vancouver would be interested though.
Hainsey could be a good signing on a 1-year deal. They have the cap space now and his contract would be up after a year.
Letestu just adds a bit of centre depth as a potential call-up from the AHL.

Some of the guys I sent down to the minors may be claimed off waivers. I believe Leivo could be picked up by Dallas. Maybe someone else will claim him but if no one else does, Dallas could be a good fit. They have some forward depth but could maybe use a little more and he has potential.

I put the Vesey trade on a Rangers armchair-gm I made, and I think it makes sense for both sides. Vancouver has cap space and could use forward depth. I still think he could be better than some do. He got 17 goals and 35 points this year. For the Rangers, if they want to go after Panarin or maybe other free agents, a Vesey trade gives them cap space and they get a pick.

If Eriksson-Lucic happens I don't see it as a 1-for-1. Eriksson is the better player IMO and Lucic has an extra year. The add wouldn't need to be huge but if i'm Jim Benning I'd want something else back. Edmonton gets a better player and gets rid of an extra year. Also, both players get fresh starts and maybe they'd be better fits with new teams.

Yes, I think Toronto is paying to get rid of Zaitsev. If they move him, they'll have to pay IMO. I don't see anyone giving up a pick for him unless Toronto retains, and Toronto can't really retain in a Zaitsev deal. The cost won't be huge, but I think they'll have to pay.

Chicago has cap space (and Goldobin's cap hit won't be very high anyway) and Goldobin gets a fresh start with a Chicago team who still has some really good leadership.

Also, it looks like Edler is probably gone.

Why waste a 3rd round pick on Vesey to play on the 4th line? Just have Granlund play there, and keep the 3rd.

Vesey is a better player though.

you dont waste a 3rd to play someone 8 minutes a night. Both Granlund and Vesey are 30 point player. Calling one better than the other is negligible.

edit: Oh, i see this was done by a ranger fan, now it makes sense.

Props for attempting a team you're not totally familiar with, but a couple points:

Leivo is on the opening night roster- I'd stake my life on that (unless he's a sweetener in a big trade)- but other than that he's a guy the Canucks want to take a chance on.

Gaunce is gone. Straight up not resigning him.

While Vesey may be better than Granlund I don't see him making an impact. The Canucks have a ton of bubble players and are trying to get rid of fringe, not acquire it.

Picks wouldn't be enough to entice GMJB into a Lucic swap, it would likely have to be a large overpayment such as Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, or Bear

Letestu is a waste of money in terms of depth. Here's the current depth chart at center:
Pettersson, Horvat, Gaudette, Beagle, Sutter, Spooner.
Granlund and Schaller can play C as well. Letestu will just be lost in the fold.

I'm pretty familiar with the Canucks. I can't watch them, but they're the home team here and while they're not my favourite team, I usually cheer for them. But anyway:

Who do they send down if not Leivo? I normally wouldn't waive him but there's a roster limit, obviously.

Was unsure about Gaunce. I was trying to decide whether to sign him or not. Could go either way.

What's so bad about giving up a 3rd for a 17 goal player?

You could be right about Lucic. Idk what it would take, but it's just 1 extra year.

Letestu could be any depth centre really. Doesn't need to be him.
