1) Eight years younger
2) Can be had for less money
3) His ceiling could be around 50-70 points

1) age doesn't really matter when you compare 3rd line winger to a first line winger. 24 year old can't be considered a prospect with rising potential anymore
2) not an issue for a team like Dallas, they'd rather pay for more talented players
3) he scored 43 points with Matthews as his C. There's nothing that points to him being able to score in that rate

1) If you're saying he's a third line winger, then I disagree. He is a top 6 winger imo, with a ceiling that could reach the 1st line on a team. Probably not Toronto, mind you, but somewhere a few years from now. If you're saying that because he spent time on the third line, then that's not abnormal considering Toronto's top 6 and the fact that that was his rookie season. And speaking of being a rookie, he may not be a prospect, but he definitely has rising potential. How many players have ended up peaking between 26-28?

2) So you're saying they would be completely opposed to making a 1 one 1 trade that makes them younger, faster (while maintaining a lot of skill) and while saving on the cap?

3) Matthews isn't a playmaking center. And for his rookie season, 43 points is not bad at all. I maintain the opinion that 50-70 points is a realistic ceiling for him. 50-60 most likely.

I would like to finish this post with a couple more things. 1) I'm not saying that Dallas would do this trade. But if it was offered to them, I have a hard time believing that they wouldn't at least consider it, whether seriously or not. 2) I'd like to point out that is isn't a suggested roster, nor is it a prediction. Just another entry in the 1 for 1 challenge that some have been doing around here. The idea is that the trades should be plausible, and in my opinion, I do feel that the value is there.

He's a middle-6 winger. LW is the weakest forward position of TOR forwards, hence he plays the 2nd line. He might be fast, but he's nothing too special. Even Janmark from Dallas could get a 40+ point season if he plays with Matthews regularly. And to be fair, there's not a high speed difference between Radulov and Johnsson, it's not like Radulov's slow by any means. Not to mention that he scores 30 points more per season.

DAL is definitely not going to even consider that trade. Radulov is far superior player of the two.

I feel the need to point out that I didn't say Radulov was slow. Even considered leaving out that part of the comment because I didn't want you to think I was implying that.

I agree that (as of now at least) that Radulov is the better player, but I disagree that he is the FAR superior player. I also do think Dallas would consider it. We're at an impasse however, so let's just agree to disagree.

Thanks for the discussion. I was hoping more people would show up and give their opinions on how I did with the challenge, but alas...

The forwards are pretty good, there's somtimes a bit of an age gap but mostly pretty even talent wise.
The defense is where it gets tough, the Reilly, Muzzin and Dermott trades you lost which really makes the defense look depleted.
The goalies are good, again Rinne a lot older than Andersen but similar talent wise, and Bibeau and Sparks also a wash.
