I know there's definitely some critiques I could make here but can't think of them right now. Pretty solid list overall though
Edit: partly because the Jets don't have any prospects

Love this deal, great partner for Ehlers and super versatile which is what we need with trade returns for Scheif/Helle currently being unknown.

Cap hit is good, but the term would really scare me if I was NYI. This could look pretty bad by year 4-5, although with the cap going up maybe it works out okay.

This has to be the worst signing of free agency, bar none. And that's in a year with no shortage of overpaid 3rd pair defenseman.

(MTL/WSH) - Edmundson for 2024 3rd (MIN), 2024 7th (WSH)
Habs kinda screwed up by not moving him earlier, although not their fault he got hurt. Probably could've got a late 1st at some point (maybe 21-22) but settling for a 3rd isn't terrible, even if it's a bit below his previous market value.

Preds recent center contracts:
Ryan Johansen: 8x8- traded at 50% retained for no return
Kyle Turris: 7x6- bought out after 3 years
Matt Duchene: 7x8- bought out after 4 years
Ryan O'Reilly: 4x4.5....
Edit: Turris was 6x6, bought out after 2. Point stands

Wow, interesting deal.
Was told by Avs fans 2 weeks ago that it would be an overpay to move Newhook+ for Scheifele so kinda feel validated by this one lol. Also good on Kent Hughes for taking another swing at a young player rather than keeping the picks. Draft tails off by pick 31.

Yeah, and I figured with Chiarot going out you can live with the contract
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>Could also really benefit Detroit having a high end PP QB. Powerplay wasn’t very good last year. And a lot of familiarity with Krug and Perron.</div></div>

Alternatively, this trade also works with Helle going to LA and Dubois to Pittsburgh. You can let me know which is better.

Interesting. I don't really see how we can compete without Helle tbh. Unfortunately Dubois seems to be gone already because he's the one that still has room for growth.
Either way, I'm not too optimistic about Chevy overseeing this summer. This offseason is a critical point for the franchise and he seems to still stubbornly believe that we're a move away from a contender. That mindset could risk our three best assets walking next offseason, or maybe worse, locking us into mediocrity for a half decade or more.

Yeah, he should still have 2C upside, but he's not a surefire Scheifele replacement. I think unfortunately we've missed our best chance to trade Scheif (last summer), rental prices are generally not as high as for guys with more term. My biggest fear is still that we resign him to a massive overpay and lock ourselves into the middle 10 for the next 5+ years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MeetYourMakar</b></div><div>Drop Newhook and I would consider it. Him and PLD have done nothing to make a high character team want to bring them in. At least not at top/market dollar</div></div>

Attitude issues and all, the last time Scheifele was below a point a game before this year was 2015-16. I find it hard to believe he'd go for less than Horvat, and it probably would be more. A middle 6 guy and a 1st doesn't seem like an overpay in my view.

I liked Barron and he's still got time to improve. I think he could be a solid 3C in a few years. 2 mil isn't crazy, especially if we're operating well under the cap anyways.
Completely disagree on your Demelo/Dillon assessment; I see it the other way around. Demelo gets burned sometimes but he also is a decent chance surpressor in his own end (although he does end up there a little too much). Dillon might be tough but he handles the puck like a live grenade and it drives me nuts. I don't remember him making a clean exit pass all year.

Montreal Canadiens signed Cole Caufield (8 Years / $7,850,000 AAV)
It's a similar deal to what Keller got a few years ago. A little higher $ and cap hit percentage, but Keller signed under a flat cap whereas Caufield is signing in a period of (likely) cap growth. Both had decent but incomplete seasons before signing, and had maximum production of about a 65 point pace (Caufield scored 64/82 last year, Keller with 65 in a full season his rookie year). Keller's deal is definitely under value now. I can see Caufield being there in a few years, maybe sooner if he really breaks out next season.

Nice deal for the Wild, I think. For a guy who's having a massive down year, this is good value.
Sabres take a swing at a young-ish power forward type who scored close to 0.5 p/gp in the past. A bit pricey, but not a bad get.

Oh wow this is atrocious for Detroit. Absolutely brutal.
Even if Vrana doesn't bounce back, you're willfully eating half his salary in exchange for essentially nothing. I know the guy supposedly has issues, but he's still a 30 goal talent. Every team in the league should have been on this.

Honestly I think most won't like it for the Hawks but this is pretty fair. Domi has a lot of points but his playdriving metrics are mediocre.
