He’s gonna keep improving, and with the cap rising over time this will be a fantastic value contract.

Good signing.

Habs love to pay guys who have shown very little 8 Mil per year.

At least this is a better bet than Suzuki was

I feared Coco could have preferred a shorter term to get his UFA status ASAP

Signing your stars to max terms is always a win

Can't believe we signed him for less than Suzuki. Future 40 goal scorer is a steal for this price and term in today's NHL. Gives us cap flexibility for 8 years.

This was the first real test of the new management’s negotiating, and in the end Hughes came through with maximum term on a reasonable AAV.

Keeping the number below Suzuki’s is impressive.

In Hughes we trust. Couldn't have been a better term and price.

We all remember his clutch last second goal against the Flyers.

Great deal, ever since MSL took over, Caufield has been amazing, if my math is correct, Caufield was on a 46 goal pace this season, assuming he can keep that up, we've just locked up our elite winger for the next 8 years

Great salary structure too, 5 mill signing bonus first 2 years big front loaded for first 4 then under 6 when M-NTC kicks in. Hard to argue with that flexibility.

This contract should be an absolute steal in the back half of the deal when the cap has jumped a ton

it's a little more than potential. He was on pace for 45 goals this year and he was phenomenal in that playoff run. There are results.

He was also only on pace for 65 or so points, was he not? And his defence is lacking a bit, so he really isn’t amazing, but I’m sure he’ll improve.

If he was under MSL the entire time it would have been in even fewer games.
