Couple big trades and UFA signings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>KK is an overpaid bottom 6 player with 6 years left on his contract. 6 years is not dirt cheap to buy out. Sharky as he said just doesn't know, he hasn't been in Calgary very long and extension talks haven't even started with him yet. It's good that he was honest instead of copping out with the standard BS answer "I love it here and I want to stay" most players give to those questions... Toffoli for example everywhere he goes it's "I love it here, my wife loves it here and we want to stay here" but when he doesn't immediately get offered a big raise with plenty of term as a 32 year old pending UFA he suddenly wants a trade.
Necas is an arbitration eligible RFA who can just sign his QO and be UFA a year or two from now too. He's only 6 months younger than Sharky so age isn't a factor. Production is similar this year with Sharky actually being ahead a little bit with 7 goals and 6 points more in 5 more games played (Necas missed 5 games this year, Sharky played all 82).</div></div>
KK has a buyout that's only $800k per yer... that's not bad

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Joblow</b></div><div>This Necas contract is brutal. He doesn’t deserve anything near that amount. Last year was a anomaly, Necas is a 50-55 point winger who can’t play a 200 feet game. Habs ain’t trading any assets for a guy’s without caracter and completely disappear in the playoffs</div></div>
His 200-foot game is getting better and he's been at 25 goals or more the last couple of seasons and probably gonna be better in a different system, and his playoffs disappearance is a bit of an overstatement sure there is a bit of an dip in production but it isn't that bad

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>The problem is the cap % of his last deal puts him at least at 12.5 now. Not many teams are gonna wanna give a soft perimeter undersized player 12.5 mill</div></div>
That certainly is part of the problem but I think the bigger problem is that he plays a style of game that is great in the regular season but not in the post season and no gm really values that kind of player at $12m+

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>The only way a Marner trade makes sense for any team is if they’re sending:
2 mid level roster players (ex Oleksiak + Burakovsky)
1-2 prospects (Rehkopf, Price, Goyette)

2nd round pick
For Marner extended
If Toronto trades Marner they’re getting quantity not quality</div></div>
I agree... If Toronto trades Marner it'll be from a position of weakness not strength and they are gonna get a very weak return because of that position and the NMC

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Cade Webber (2 Years / $875,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Trust me unless your name is Makar not many teams have used Small Dman and won cups in recent years
Other than the Avs everyone's big
And Orlov may be a bit short but 214 pounds makes up for it. Wild meanwhile no cup with Spurgeon and while it could work with him he would be an exception and fox is up there with Makar but still no cup out of it yet.
Having a football team on the backend makes it hard for opponents to get to the front of the net, create plays, among other things
We saw it during VGK run last year</div></div>
I mean that's totally fair... The Hurricanes blue line is great and everybody besides Orlov is 6'1 or bigger

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>In general when we look at all the cup winners in recent years they fielded big Dcores
VGK Cup Winner (2023) 🤷
Hague 6'6 230 pounds
McNabb 6'4 201 pounds
Pietrangelo 6'3 215 pounds
Hutton 6'3 201 pounds (7th Dman)
Whitecloud 6'2 207 pounds
Theodore 6'2 197 pounds
Martinez 6'1 210 pounds
And in that series vs. FLA we saw the damage those guys did. FLA just could not get much done with these guys preventing net drives.
Its a copy cat league and teams will see okay what do I need to help my team win lord Stanley by copying what the other guy did. Now yes small Dman can work but they need to be Makar level gifted</div></div>
I think that small defensemen work they just need to be very technically sound... Spurgeon, Orlov, and Fox come to mind.

Playoff Predictions as a Leaf fan
I think your underestimating how much better this Hurricanes team is than last year.
We add a healthy Andrei Svechnikov, Jake Guentzel, Dmitry Orlov, and a much improved power play.
Plus the Panthers haven't scored in 120 straight minutes against the Hurricanes

You could argue Aho ahead of Eichel but for me Point is definitely ahead. Although if you were using just PPG and points Miller would then be ahead of Aho (and quite a few others)</div></div>
Point to me feels much more a product of his linemate than being the one elevating his linemates... his stats over the past few years without Kucherov are not great to say the least but I can see the argument for Point/Eichel/Aho/Miller for that 7/8/9/10 spot.

2. As a favor to Daniel Brière after he bought out TDA so that we could sign him
