small but big move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Popsp</b></div><div>They gonna have big problem to sign everyone there soo they will have to accept less to save some money</div></div>
The big problem is that other fanbases don’t understand that the Canes have the cap flexibility to re-sign Guentzel, Jarvis, and Necas all to long term deals and still ice a competitive roster. Certain players won’t be re-signed due to being cap casualties, but saying that the Canes HAVE to take a crap offer because there will be a tight fit, is just absurd. Letting players walk is all part of running a hockey team. The roster would absolutely be better if they could keep guys like Skjei, Pesce, and Turbo, but that isn’t realistic unless other players get moved.
Canes aren’t taking the Habs low ball offers for a player they have no reason to move. Any team looking to acquire Necas would be buying off a contender, so a lackluster quantitative package of futures won’t cut it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>I think the premise with the Necas deals are that Carolina chooses to extend Guentzel and Pesce forcing them to take picks and prospects for Necas because of the cap.
Can't really trade him for assets that have the same cap hit and they still not be able to fit them under the cap</div></div>
I'm thinking he's talking more a package around young NHL players on every level deals. I feel they would idolize young players over picks. Nashville would be a good example with players like Tomasino, Evangelista (who they should not trade) and Parssinen. I think Guhle would be a top target from Montreal but in my opinion they should not trade him.

That'll have to wait until the summer of 2025 when either Marner or JT do not get resigned.
And honestly Nylander should have been traded rather then handed a $11+ million contract.

2. As a favor to Daniel Brière after he bought out TDA so that we could sign him</div></div>
He wasn't actually in the Hurricanes farm system -- he was in college -- but they did seem to have an overabundance of good college prospects. I'm sure you're right about it being related to the DeAngelo buyout though. There's a rule that says you can't retain salary if you trade a guy back to the team you got him from, so the buyout combined with the Rizzo trade was a way to get around the rule and end up with the same result.

Trust me unless your name is Makar not many teams have used Small Dman and won cups in recent years
Other than the Avs everyone's big
And Orlov may be a bit short but 214 pounds makes up for it. Wild meanwhile no cup with Spurgeon and while it could work with him he would be an exception and fox is up there with Makar but still no cup out of it yet.
Having a football team on the backend makes it hard for opponents to get to the front of the net, create plays, among other things
We saw it during VGK run last year

In general when we look at all the cup winners in recent years they fielded big Dcores
VGK Cup Winner (2023) 🤷
Hague 6'6 230 pounds
McNabb 6'4 201 pounds
Pietrangelo 6'3 215 pounds
Hutton 6'3 201 pounds (7th Dman)
Whitecloud 6'2 207 pounds
Theodore 6'2 197 pounds
Martinez 6'1 210 pounds
And in that series vs. FLA we saw the damage those guys did. FLA just could not get much done with these guys preventing net drives.
Its a copy cat league and teams will see okay what do I need to help my team win lord Stanley by copying what the other guy did. Now yes small Dman can work but they need to be Makar level gifted

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>seanrushton</b></div><div>That's a fair point</div></div>
For sure. You also can't watch or know every player inside and out. I think it is ok to use a quick look at stats, but it should go along side the players history, whether that is controversy or injury, etc., what your own team needs, what the other team needs, what fans think, and what pundits think, in order to make determinations and valuations.
For one example of many, there have been a lot of recent proposals from DET fans on here, we know they need cap space and we know a guy like Fabbri is constantly injured and hasn't been producing. We also know that CHI has no other reason to be interested in taking Fabbri's contract aside from being compensated to do so. I don't have to watch Fabbri on a regular basis to know he is a cap dump. I know I have watched Fabbri through the years and that is not particularly impressive relative to the rest of the league and that he is not someone I would target for any reason. And this goes for a lot of players and teams around the league. I'm not going to watch a players entire career over again every time someone proposes some garbage trade. haha. But yeah, scouting prospects is a whole different beast, and, personally, I find it way more fun and exciting.
As for pending free agents like Necas, I use what I know about CHI and Kyle Davidson's intentions. What I know is, they aren't targeting anyone like him or packaging high value assets to acquire them. They are building from within. Also, I know that Necas is not good defensively. All this would do for CHI is cost them valuable assets and create an unnecessary roadblock. I would rather take the assets that come with a cap dump and bank on them having a resurgence and bringing in even more assets at the trade deadline than go overpay for a young player, at this juncture in the rebuild. Maybe in another couple years, though, we can start talking about that kind of move.
But, if KD went out and did something like this, I can't say I wouldn't understand. I just feel like it runs contrary to the plan he has laid out and stuck to thus far.

I had Eichel, Aho, and Miller all pretty close for 8/9/10. You could argue Aho ahead of Eichel but for me Point is definitely ahead. Although if you were using just PPG and points Miller would then be ahead of Aho (and quite a few others)

While Brindley and McGroarty had all of last year to build chemistry, and played together almost exclusively this year (when healthy), Nazar put up just under a point per game mostly while running his own line being the sole chance creator with a rotating cast of linemates, coming off a major hip surgery and a whole year of lost development. Also, you could just watch him and the things he does, and how obvious it was that most of the other guys in Michigan just weren't on his level of IQ, vision, anticipation, and work ethic. Not to say that they weren't a pretty hard working team, but if you watch enough games you can see how often he would create these plays with no one there or ready to capitalize, or how often he would be in the most optimal positions and his teammates wouldn't even see him because they just weren't processing optimally or aware of their surroundings. He is an amazing skater, a great passer, playmaker, and shooter, dominates at the dot. And that is all just the offensive zone. On the defensive side, he takes responsibility and works hard in his own zone, he kills penalties, vocally dictates positioning on the ice, efficiently shuts down his marks, even those much bigger than him, isn't afraid to be physical and, for a small guy, is actually REALLY good at making and absorbing hits. Exudes confidence. And all of that has already shown in just his first two games in the NHL. The kid is gonna be a stud, an important part of the team, and a fan favorite, whether it is on the first, second, or third line.</div></div>

That's your first problem. The Pro-Hockey Group and the Capfriendly scouting tool in general are not worth anyones time, if I'm being totally honest. It is full of hobbyists who mostly don't know what they are talking about. Anyone who does know what they are talking about wouldn't say that about Nazar. Third line floor? Maybe. No one is ever a sure thing, but he solidly projects as a top 6 forward as much as anyone.
