Although not as easy or likely, players with NMC can still be traded. They didn’t sign their deals with NMC to not be traded, but to control where and when they are traded. But they are moveable.

Take Marner for example - he’s the lightning rod for Toronto’s struggles so he’s the easy one to move - all management had to do is talk to him and ask for his help to facilitate a trade. Tell Marner that even though he grew up a Leafs fan, the team is going in a different direction in a year without him. So if he helps make a trade possible now, he’s eligible for the extra year that he can sign on an extension rather than as a UFA. Marner still has a family to provide for so that extra year is key. Toronto tells him that they won’t be offering him a deal and if he’d like the security before free agency, then a trade is the best way to do so. A trade also gives Marner leverage in negotiations on an extension with a new team so that means more money for him, which makes it easier to accept a trade. He then can pick whatever team he wants to go to and give Toronto a list of the teams he’d accept to so he’s not traded somewhere he doesn’t wanna play & he can finally be the go to guy that he’s always wanted to be wherever else he goes. That’s pretty incentive for Marner.

If Marner says he won’t accept a trade, then management can tell him he he doesn’t change his mind by the time camp starts that he’ll be a healthy scratch until he does. Players want to be wanted by their teams and if Marner feels like he isn’t then it’s easier to accept the idea of a trade.

Don’t believe me? Go ask Ryan McDonagh how get got traded to Nashville.

I stopped reading after a couple sentences....

NO, the player will not be bullied into being traded.

Marner and JT will be with the Leafs all year long next season.

That's a fact.

ACGM is getting annoying with 100 Marner trades everyday.

We're talking about the same fanbase and media that wanted Reaves placed on waivers, bought out or traded after 10 games.

BTW, check McDonaugh contract...a NTC is NOT the same as a NMC.

Anyways, why trade Marner? he's in a contract season, look at what Nylander done in his contract year.

Nylander was a PPG player than gets motivated into being a 100 point player.

Marner could get a 20 point boost too, so I'll take bets, Marner scores over 105 points next season.

Such a silly narrative. Leafs are still in win mode, and if that means Tavares and Marner stay for year, so be it. Leafs certainly aren't scratching a top player.
If the Leafs need changes, why sign four UFAs from the current team resigned?
Either way Marner is a near impossible trade . Teams he might accept a trade to, don't have cap. And he isn't waiving to a poor team with cap, who wouldn't trade for him a one year rental anyway.

I only signed the 4 UFA returns just to complete my ACGM and was too lazy to shop around.

But yes Marner stays, who by the way still leads all Leaf players in all time playoff points from the Core 5.

Says he stopped ready after a couple sentences.. then proceeds to reply to the very last thing written 🤦🏻‍♂️

Actually, a NTC and a NMC have similarities. BOTH can’t be traded to any team without consent. The only difference is that a no trade clause can be sent to the minors without consent but a NMC can’t.

You don’t think players are bullied into waiving? Tampa literally told McDonagh that if he didn’t waive his NTC and give Tampa a list of teams he’d accept a trade to then he’d be placed on waivers - thus making him vulnerable to the worst teams in the league or risk being sent to the AHL. So yes. Management does use threats as a way to get guys to waive their NMC. You’re clueless and naive if you think otherwise

Call me clueless but you still miss the point on the difference of NTC and NMC.

A "bully" tactic on Marner is pointless and useless and a waste of time.

Healthy scratch a $11 million player will do more harm than good.

Allowing all other Nhl players avoid this franchise in the future, GREAT plan.

OEL had a NMC and could not get bullied to move so he got bought out.

So buy out Marner. Another GREAT plan.

BTW the last 2 NMC traded were conducting by the players, not the teams, Hertl and EK65 wanting out of the forever rebuilding SJS.

As a neutral fan... The Leafs need to move at least one of the core 4 for a variety of reasons

That'll have to wait until the summer of 2025 when either Marner or JT do not get resigned.

And honestly Nylander should have been traded rather then handed a $11+ million contract.
