This is a crazy good contract for an easy top 5 goalie in the NHL. Should be getting 10M+, especially with the Cap going up in the next few years. STEAL

Nice to see Sorokin getting paid, definitely a top 3 goalie in the league

Never thought I'd say this, but damn, good job Lou!

Lou and long-term deals with mid-6ers and goalies (doubly so if they came from NJ or Toronto). Like PB&J.

One of the only two excusable long term extensions Lou gave out:

I'm always worried about long-term contracts for goalies. Goalies can easily get niggling injuries, ones where they can't be put on LTIR, but ones where their play drops off a cliff.

That said, $8 million is going to seem like nothing in a few years when the cap is at nearly $100 million.

Cap hit is good, but the term would really scare me if I was NYI. This could look pretty bad by year 4-5, although with the cap going up maybe it works out okay.

Good deal for the early part of the contract but always scary to give out 8 year contracts to goalies.
