Hard to say cuz he’s an RFA, and Pittsburgh isn’t exactly swimming in cap

Euros compared to North Americans historically have higher willingness and rate to go play across the pond if they don’t like what the NHL offers.

I'd say it's all reasonable except for the Marner extension. The only guy that thinks that's reasonable is his agent haha.

I don't think Kapanen has any interest to play overseas. He's a great player in the NHL, why would he want to play in a worse league and make less money?

For example, if a team offers him only 2 mil for 4 years when he could get 4 mil for 3 years, he can go play a season in Euro and come back once cap clears, in the end earning that player more money than if they accepted the original offer. Plus they can wait for offer sheets in the meantime, assuming they even happen.

Haha it’s so hard to say what he’ll get. Think my contract is too much or too little?

That could happen but it's very unlikely. If he played a season overseas, he would probably get worse and teams would be hesitant to offer him anything

That’s why I was hesitant to offer too much for Kapanen, because it’s a slight increased amount of risk to a team he’s being dealt to. Also trying to avoid my leaf bias lol

I don't think he should get more than 10... maybe a little more than that if it's for the full 8 years. I've had a number in my head for a while now - 7 yrs x $9.893m. When you look at the comps like Kane's first deal or Drai's deal, 9.5 is more than enough, and if he wants to push it a little, he should be happy in the 9.5-10m range.
