Jesus man it’s not hard. If they didn’t have Matthews and Tavares they wouldn’t have stars, so it wouldn’t make sense to allow the Marner offer sheet. That is my reasoning behind why 4 firsts is better than Marner for the Leafs

It would only makes sense to take a Marner offer sheet because they ALREADY have stars. It’s like you’re not even reading what I’m saying. If they traded Tavares and Matthews for draft picks then they wouldn’t have stars anymore now would they? That is what I said and I stand by it, 4 firsts are worth more to a team with stars then one player who takes away depth.

Did you miss the part where I said they have the stars already. This is what happens when a team needs to pay out 9 mil plus to three players, the depth suffers.

But all 4 together are far better than him. Why would Leafs want another Marner anyway if he gets offer sheeted? So that he can ask for 11 mill and walk again? They have the Stars already, they just need depth.

Yeah I agree, I don’t think it’s worth it for the Stars to re-sign Zucc with all the options coming up

I feel like Duchene would be a better deal than Panarin because he’ll be a few mill cheaper and give the Stars much needed Center depth

Yeah it’s mostly so they can get a pick, and to hit the cap floor. Not to play.

Granlund - 5.75m
Smith - 4.25m
Josi - 4m
They could let Granlund walk and probably resign Smith for less than 4.25 a year. Josi 10m, Smith 3.5. Tight but very possible</div></div>
I was more implying that it might be unwise to resign Josi if you give these contracts out as Fabbro and Tolvanen come up shortly after. Sorry should have been more clear.

I don’t think Islanders are the team to trade Saad to, as they need to resign Lee, Lehner and Beau. But I agree he’s gotta go. Maybe EDM in package for Pulijarvi?

A Few Ideas Looking for feedback
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>5 years into the contractwith only 3 years remaining he will still be a top 4 Dman. 33 is the end of a defender’s prime but it certainly isn’t the end of their career. Like I mentioned earlier the 6m will not be what it is today. Just look at the contract handed out to Lindell. Top 4 defenders are going to be making 8m + in 5 years. Sure the contract would be better if it were 6 years but I’m not too concerned with having to move a vet RHD at the TDL with 2 years left in what will be a cheap contract.</div></div>
Then it becomes a Seabrook situation where yeah he can play, but he’s a low end top 4 who seriously limits flexibility with contracts. Same type of thing happened to Staal, Phaneuf and Greene. History repeats

That’s what people said about Seabrook. Yeah sure he can play, but he’s way overpaid and handcuffs the Blackhawks pretty badly in cap. Just a bad idea overall

He’ll also be old as hell and possibly unplayable at 33/34 (5 years into the contract). Really don’t want to pay someone 6 mill to munch popcorn in the press box.

Exactly. Leafs would rather keep Marner and work the contract than sell for less than max value.

Leafs would rather have 4 firsts IMO. Then they just give up one 1st and something small for a d man like Severson.
