CapFriendly's most logical trades recently - Datsyuk contract.

Created by: F50marco
Team: 2016-17 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2016
Published: Jun. 20, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not my idea. Many of others have mentioned it first and it has been reported on some rumor sites. Frankly this should be the only Datsyuk option from now on. The same could work with Marc Savard's contract in New Jersey but i think they will be closer to needing the cap space then Arizona will.

Trades
DET
  1. Pronger, Chris
Additional Details:
Pronger's cap hit can be added to LTIR.
Pronger's salary is league minimum. (575k)
ARI
  1. Datsyuk, Pavel
Additional Details:
Datsyuk retired so no salary is paid out.
Datsyuk's cap stays 7.5M but Arizona has the space but doesn't use it.

So Arizona is just like "hey we'll take all this extra cap for you for free?"

It saves Arizona about $575,000 in actual money.

Arizona will not spend enough in this year's cap to need the extra 7.5M to stay cap compliant and Detroit is saving Arizona's owner 575K of actual money in the process. Pronger's contract can be put on LTIR so Detroit gets the cap saving they need.

Simplest way of explaining this, Detroit pays 575K to Arizona to drop their available cap hit this year from 74M to 66.5M. (Arizona has never spent more than 66.5M in cap hit in a season anyway)

In my opinion Detroit has to send a pick (3rd or 4th round) to Arizona. The 575k aren´t a good arguement for the Yotes to make this trade. Detroit needs the free cap space, Arizona has more than enough cap space.

It absolutely does makes sense and no they don't need to sweeten anything. It makes perfect sense all by itself. All Arizona has to do in this situation is not spend more than 66.5M in cap space this year (Which they are going to do anyway) and they get out of paying half a million dollars out of the owner's pockets.

Cap space isn't an actual thing you can feel with your hands. If you don't use all of it, nothing is gained and nothing is lost. Given the parameters that i believe to be accurate, (Correct me if i'm wrong) this is a match made in a heaven type of trade.

I don´t think that Arizona needs more than 60M cap space this year. I see your intention and from a rational point of view this might be correct.

But this trade would prefer Detroit much more than Arizona.

Detroit would free up 7.5M cap space with this trade and every $ of this free cap space will be needed to sign/resign players for the next season.

Arizona will be over cap with or without this trade. Ok, the 575K might be an arguement, but in my opinion not a big one.
E.g. don´t sign Tobias Rieder $2.5M/4 Y´s but $2M/2Y´s.
