Why would Montreal part ways with young players/draft picks to get a backup goalie? The 2020 Entry draft will be in Montreal... I think they want to ADD picks, not get rid of them...
I'd prefer a scenario where Habs trade for Reimer, getting a 2nd rounder back...

not many blockbuster trades anymore.. and i agree with carlapin.. doubt it happens for such a small issue

you can get a backup for cheap in free agency (assuming they sign ofc)
Mac and Kinkaid are great backups and they come cheap as well... idk if they sign with the habs though

well, they do get a first round pick... a LHD like planned before Caufield fell on our laps.

We get Vile Heinola and Brossoit for a first round pick and Evans + Lindgren

+ plus Perrault is still a great third liner.

This trade simply doesn't make sense in any way. Not even so much the values but the structure.

Winnipeg just drafted Heinola a couple days ago. They're not going to then trade him. Kulikov and Perreault are average players but are more than likely being shopped as to try and open up cap space. meaning they could be had for very cheap and in Kulikov's case, I think WPG needs to add a sweetener or retain a lot. I don't know what this obsession with Broissoit is? He had a good season as a backup. Whoopity doo. He just signed a new contract a month ago so I don't think they want to trade him.

As for the value, MTL"s is losing their 2020 1st which at the very least is similar in value to the recently drafted Heinola. So if you remove both from the equation, its like Habs are paying some prospects and picks for Brossoit, Kulikov and Perreault. Not sure why? Habs don't need what Kulikov gives, Habs have very little space for another forward like Perreault and Brossoit seems like a decent add but so would be a bunch of UFA goalies who wouldn't cost anything to acquire.

I other words: you think WPG would need to add to this deal?

- I want Brossoit because he is cheap and was reliable last year (plus he is from Qc).
- And I want a LHD prospect.
- this trade effectively solves WPG's cap problems.

So maybe, MTL removes it's first for a 2nd

Sorry still don't agree.. blockbuster trades won't happen for a backup.. you can just pick a goalie up for cheap and you don't have to pay Perreault and Kulikov a combined 8+ mill

Perreault's contract is also pretty long

habs need to get ready to pay guys like KK, Poehling, Domi, Caulfield, and Nick Suzuki if they develop into high end talent

Perreault's contract has two years left...

the big piece here is not Brossoit... it's Vile Heinola

This is basically saying "I want these two things and Im telling WPG that this will solve all their cap problems"......

What is WPG's goal here? To cut cap, right? So they can do that without losing Brossoit and Heinola. Example trade Kulikov with retention and a 4th round pick for a 6th round pick. The trade Perreault plus retention and a pick for a prospect. (You could add better picks to the returns to make it work but the point is they don't need to do all this extra stuff just because YOU want Heinola and Brossoit)

I mean i'm thinking of this from an unbiased spectator. If its me wanting the best for the Habs, I'd say remove the 1st altogether and then I'd accept but what good is that if I were in WPG's position, I wouldn't accept this trade?

Well according to your title the trade was for a backup and capdump.. might want to change your title then

Also Domi, Mete and Juulsen's contract is up.. I wouldn't want to pay 4 mil if Perreault starts declining

and why did winnipeg draft Heinola if they could've just traded down for the pick?

I see what you mean, and I do agree that from WPG's p.o.v it's not the best move.

If winnipeg is gonna trade a guy they just drafted they could've just traded the pick and get 2 lower picks in return

well, I'm not saying that they wanted to trade him. It's a price I've set to get rid of 8M in cap.
