Description
Kapanen is getting a 3 x 3.2M & Johnsson getting 4 x 3.4M in TO So Vrana should be close to that put slightly more. Also curious if Burky will take a longer term deal so he doesn't have to worry about playing in another contract year and play loose. IDK how much PEB gets, but I've always liked his game and PK ability. would improve 4th line

Burakovsky gets at least 3.25M because he was a qualified RFA

only if he signs Qualifying offer. You can negotiate any contract once the QO is submitted.

If we're signing any former Vegas players, I'd prefer Brandon Pirri's offense over Bellemare's PK ability. We already have Hags, Backy, Oshie, Eller, Dowd, Stephenson, and Wilson for that. Other than that, I think this is about the roster we'd have on opening night.

Yeah, but Pirri can't play 4th line minutes. He is a complete defensive liability. I wouldn't mind signing him if Burky was gone and we needed a 3rd line winger.

I'm just wary of a 34-year-old fourth liner who was never a good possession player before Vegas. And Pirri is 7 years younger. In the end, I don't think that choice is really going to be the difference between a cup contender or not, but if I was a GM, I'd try for some more bottom six offense after locking Hagelin up for four years.

Knight fan here, trust me take Bellemarre over Piri, Piri is very over rated and a terrible cherry picker (never back checks and floats without the puck). Where Belly was the best shutdown/penalty killer we had. Was the heart and soul of our 4th line which through most of the year was our 2nd most effective line

I agree Chips n Beer. Also, didn't Pirri end up in the minors anyway? I think we could find a more quality 4th liner other than him.

My fear is that with Connolly gone, the Caps end up with an offensive black hole for a bottom six. It doesn't have to be either of these two players, but I would prefer someone who can play on the third line and put up some offense. Connolly was a defensive liability as well, but it worked out okay for the Caps. But I'm sure we'll find out next week what direction the Caps end up taking.

Why would he not sign the QO and take less money.. than if he just signed the QO?

If they offered him a multi year deal or told him either sign for less or well trade you to Team X. He has said he wants to stay in WSH. They had to Qualify him regardless to retain his rights for a trade anyways.
