Looking ahead to the 2020-2021 season, you have the Isles with 7 players coming off the books. Matt Martin, Valtteri Filppula, Tom Kuhnahackl, Matt Barzal, Ryan Pulock, Devon Toews and Thomas Greiss. That is a total of $12,396,666 coming off the books. Let's say for giggles the cap does not increase and stays at $81,500,000. That would leave a total of cap space of $16,505,833. (THIS NUMBER INCLUDES LADD & CLUTTERBUCK as much as I would like to see those contracts off the cap it will not happen and LTIR is not the solution) I assume you want to keep Martin, Barzal, Pulock, Toews and Greiss. With what these players currently making this coming season the total is $9,396,666. IF you re-sign these players to their current deal that leaves the team in 2020-2021 with $7,109,167 in cap space.
Barzal makes $863,333 and Toews makes $700,000. How much is Barzal & Toews worth to you? I would assume if you pay Panarin that much money doesn't Barzal deserve something close to that? Toews you might be able to get away with offering somewhere in the $3,000,000 - $4,000,000 neighborhood.
With this in mind, I don't feel like financially Panarin is fit BECAUSE of the aforementioned contracts to Andrew Ladd, Cal Clutterbuck and probably Johnny Boychuk (whom I did not mention)
