Kessel Holding Pens Hostage 3 Way Idea

Created by: Coleharborcrosby
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 28, 2019
Published: Jun. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Speculation about way Pens could go after reports from the Athletic.

What I believe is Kessels NTC list:

Washington
Columbus
Philadelphia
Tampa
Vegas
Toronto
Blackhawks
Islanders

One way to circumvent Kessel situation is 3 way trade. Here is an idea for Vegas.

Pens Recieve: Gusev Zucker
Knights Recidves: Kessel Riikola Min 2nd Pit 1st
Minnesota Recieves: Pit 3rd Smith Rights to Gorman

Vegas wins deal as they create cap, get assets and receive Kessel but all teams win because Pens get rid of Kessel and Minny gets rid of Zucker.

Gusev will be best contract in the NHL at 4M IMO.

Might not have to give up first in Ott trade but I would if it was necessary.

Calgary needs secondary scoring with size and goalie and wants to move a Dman.

Cupboards are bare again but Pens are all in next 3 Years so that’s alright. They don’t need to do any deadline shopping with this lineup and have all year to mesh. As long as Sullivan is coach Hornqvist will be on this team. This year would be their last best chance at the cup. They would have a tonne of expiring contracts and would have to resign Murray and McCann and choose a few out of Pageau, Kahun, Schultz, Brodie and Simon to keep but will have some prospects ready to step in at that point so it won’t really matter.

Let’s go Jim let’s do it

Some of the most idiotic statements I've ever read. Phil's job is offense. Put up goals in points. But apparently being a ppg player doesn't mean anything lmao

I don’t wanna say “I told you so” when GMJR trades kessel for pennies on the dollar and Pittsburg misses the playoffs next season but.... I’m afraid it’s gonna happen

Stone, Kucherov, Kane, Pastrnak, Wheeler, Arvidsson, Dadonov, Marner, Radulov, Gallagher, Kase, Tarasenko, Eberle, Atkinson, Marhessault.

I could even argue for lesser-known players like Lehkonen, Kapanen and Tuch

Points (and most definitely power play points don't measure skill.

And thank you for proving my point. Ill take a proven Kessel who puts up a ppg over a guy who is unproven in the NHL. Plotnikov and Yakupov were suppose to be NHL players too. Where are they at?

No not at all. No one has ever compared those players to Gusev. You actually just proved my point comparing two bums to a world class player.

People love to hate kessel and use him as a scapegoat when things go wrong. No idea why

There's a difference between calling him a scapegoat and saying he's not as good as you may think (which, news flash: he's not)

I’d love gusev but he’s certainly not worth kessel (yet). Could he be a Panarin? Absolutely. Could he be a bust? Absolutely as well. Least kessel is a sure thing

Outsider here. To be fair saying Gusev is better than Kessel is not fair to say. Could he be? 100%. We know what Phil is. But what we don't know is how elite Gusev can be. And I believe he'll be pretty special. Has been dominating the KHL for some time now. Better stats than panarin had I believe before he came over. That one worked out alright. Yakupov is so much different it's not even comparable other than they're from Russia. I still don't do the deal, they overpayed, but don't scoff at Gusev either because you may have to eat a ton of crow.

Sure that’s your opinion. And one that is ignorant because you know nothing about the other player. Bottom line is you aren’t making decisions and neither am I but management, ownership and Sid/Geno want Kessel gone and he’s making a trade very difficult. This is one option they have and probably the only option they have where they don’t get absolutely screwed over.

lmao exactly. Whats the point of wanting Gusev hoping he can become a ppg player over kessel who is a ppg player?

lmao its not being ignorant. Its me saying I would rather have phill kessel who is a ppg player over an unproven guy. Its really not a hard concept

What stats?

Stats that show Kessel gets a large portion of his offense from the PP? Stats that show he's literally one of the most one-dimensional players in the league? Stats that show he's one of the worst defensive forwards in the league?

I'm just saying the facts, Kessel isn't as good as you think he is

Exactly. Not to mention younger, cheaper cap hit, and actually wanted by ownership, management, coach and Sid/Geno. I think he will be better than kessel but youMre right it’s impossible to say. I think it’s safe to say he is going to be a damn good player no matter what though and I would love to get him in the deal.

If you remove the first I like it tbh.

Kessel is worth a little more than smith
Gusev is worth a little more than a 2nd

Kinda evens out

I am extremely high on Gusev but I love Kessel too. Kessels value is higher but I'd rather trade for Gusev than Kessel for that exact reason. Sabres fan btw.

Alright but you know nothing about Gusev. He’s not really unproven as he’s dominated the KHL for years. Would you trade Kessel for Panarin? Plus being younger and on a cheaper cap hit? Derrrrr

Awesome. He's dominated the KHL. NHL is completely different. You know nothing about Gusev either. Would i trade kessel for panarin? Of course I would because he's actually proven he can play in the NHL.

Yeah like I said the Knights win the trade because the other two teams are desperate. If they can do it for less than a first than absolutely that’s great. But if a first is what it takes then I would 100% still bite the bullet. Late first round picks aren’t gonna make an impact for a few years and the window will be closed by then.
