Description
I think truly the trade talk was to drive his price down. With the moves made we could still go up to 4 million, but i think it ends up between 2.75-3.5 million per year

Why would the trade talk drive his price down? When half the league wants you and they know the 4M number that gives Gusev more backing for sticking to 4M

Because they don’t have to trade him. They own his rights. Regardless read the description

I'm not sure if even $4M is enough... Vadim Shipachyov got $4.5M per year for 2 years and Gusev had better KHL numbers and in younger.. that's probably the bottom line for Gusev

I can read. You go to $4M, it leaves you with under $500K in cap space. No team goes into the season with that little of space. Have some logic. He's most likely dealt because they can't afford him.

But I don’t think they need to is the point. They ask high, settle in between

or Gusev doesn't have to "settle" and goes back to his home country and gets paid a ton more. Vegas doesn't have much leverage right now

sure with a team salary cap of 9.25m he can really make a lot more over there. Also if he does leave for the KHL, that would delay his eligibility to become a UFA for 2 years.

Lets see, Vegas has no leverage
1) he does not have group 2 status and he is not eligible to receive an offer sheet by another team
2) he has no arbitration rights.
The KHL has a team hard salary cap of 9.25m, how does he make more than 2.9m?
Also if he does go back, because he was given a qualifying offer, under the defector clause he will delay his UFA status by 2 years.
Instead of giving us your ignorant opinions , start backing them up with some actual facts

I have no idea about KHL salary cap all I know is Kovalchuk and Datsyuk were making 4-5M each recently in KHL. When you are leagues MVP and top scorcer I'd think you expect the same type of money

"The Kontinental Hockey League has earned the reputation through the years as a place where players will get paid. Sometimes that payment would literally be a paper bag full of dollar bills left near a locker. Sometimes that payment would be in oodles of “bonus money” to get around salary cap issues." from a report on KHL salary two years ago

That is one of the reasons they implemented a hard cap this year and have strict punishments for abusing it and players also not getting paid. I suspect also impacted to Gusev's reasoning for coming over here.

I see. In that report it says there's still soft cap of 13.4M USD for 1 more year. So probably a few clubs willing to pay luxury tax for 1 year at least to get the MVP from last year
