Can’t see Edmonton ever doing that deal. Johnson’s contract is ugly.

The buyout has already happened but I wonder if a Rust, Johnson for Pulujarvi, Sekera might of worked for both teams to some extent, might of needed to add some picks or pieces going either way to even it out but it might of worked out alright for both teams.

That's why there is 1M retained. With Gagner going other way JJ would not shake Oilers' cap space to any direction this season, and 2 remaining years with Johnson's 2.25M cap hit is not that bad. At least when they get Rust's relatively cheap contract and a pick. Sure some B-level prospect or other low pick could be added in the deal.
