Making the most of not being able to move Backes Moore Miller

Created by: Jiannuccilli
Team: 2019-20 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2019
Published: Jul. 3, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Look, I get Heinen is valuable and I’m not one of those people who hate him and think he sucks, but with how things are looking right now, only 2/3 of McAvoy Carlo and Heinen will be back. And I think many would agree with me that Heinen is the odd man out. Moore and Miller can’t be moved because they’re injured, and trading Backes will likely cost a first and a prospect. And I will not even consider moving Krejci to save Danton Heinen.

So obviously, they may have to move backes to get Heinen back. However, look at it this way. Trading Backes will cost a first and a prospect. Would you really rather have Heinen instead of a first and a prospect? It’s unfortunate that it comes down to that, but I won’t be surprised if Heinen is not a Bruin next year if they can’t move Backes, which is likely.

Everyone wants to move backes. But if it comes down to the sake of signing Heinen I don’t know if I’d pay the price to move backes. And with the way their money situation is looking I doubt they plan on trading for a RW (again)

I don't see anyone taking Backes' contract this year at this point. B's are stuck.

I don’t see 2 years for McAvoy bringing the AAV below 5, which would leave 1.3mil for Heinen. I think Heinen will get 2.2+

Maybe but still. Get him down to like 4.7 and you’re at 1.5mil. Maybe try to get Carlo down to 2.5 for 2 years? And offer Heinen 2mil flat?

If they can’t move anyone out, there’s a good chance Moore goes on LTIR. He’s reported out for up to 6 months. That will give them some cap wiggle room.

But then what happens when we have to take him off in November/december?

Miller is still injured (idk if you’re the guy i was talking to earlier but I was wrong about him being healthy) and you can’t trade injured players

Do you have any examples of that? Not denying it, just curious

Krug. Coming off a 45 point season or around there got 1 year 1.4. Reilly Smith 20+ goals 50+ points 1 year 1.4 etc etc.

Pretty sure that wouldn’t work, because he would be required to be taken off LTIR to be traded, which would put the bruins over the cap. And I don’t think the NHL allows a player to simultaneously be taken off LTIR and traded. It would have to be 2 separate moves, which would first require the removal from LTIR, which would put the bruins over the cap. So they would still have to move someone else.

Interesting. I would like to see the bruins take that road then.

They could bury Backes and carry 19 skaters for a few games and be under the cap

Burying Backes gives 1,075,000 cap relief, doesn’t look like enough for Moore

Depending on how much over they’d be, maybe send Backes to Providence if he’s consistently a healthy scratch.

If they trade Miller, which they can do when he’s healthy because Moore will still be LTIR, then they have room for 20 skaters when Moore returns.

Miller should be ready well before Moore but also sure trade him on LTIR if you want, they don’t really need assets although I’m still shocked McQuaid brought back picks last year.
