Lol and this is exactly why Bergevin did what he did. Teams will think twice to low balling young players and sign them to real deals.

Well no, he hoped to get the player but it forced the Canes to sign him for about 12 million more than they would have offered him for the same term.

If you're referring to Beau, he has not shown enough production consistency to be able to demand a larger contract. He often goes through droughts where he disappears, hence why he spent some time in the AHL last year. I like him as a player and would love to keep him around but don't think he has the leverage to go much higher than this. I can't see why anyone would go more than 2.5-3 per year on a bridge deal, as he still needs to show more. This is a completely different case than the Habs with Aho, and I don't think any team would, but if anyone wants to offer sheet him for more than that they can have him. Lou will take the extra cap flexibility and compensation.

I’m simply talking about signing the young guys to what they’re worth before the he free agency period.
