If you want an opposite team to take the compensation for their young star, you have to make this compensation worth. I can be wrong here (since it is my personal opinion), but I don't think that any offer sheet for which the return isn't 4 first round pick, isn't going to work. Imagine you are WIN GM, and another GM call you to offer you 2 x 1st RP, 1 x 2nd RP and 1 x 3rd RP for Laine, would you accept? I wouln't. The concept of an offer sheet is to pay too much for a player, to offer more than the player's value in order for the GM to accept it. But I think Laine would accept your offer tho. It's just that I think WIN would match it. Tell me what you think.

If they offer him 10.5m i dont think Jets will match it. But, I could be wrong.

Yikes man, I don't want to lose Suzuki. But Laine is something else. Imagine Laine and Caufield in the future. Two guys that can score 40 goals. Reminds me of Tampa Bay ( i know they have 3 but still).

Losing Suzuki is not ideal but I'm also not sure he is going to be the same type of offensive player at the next level. He plays the game at a slower pace then the Habs currently play. He says in his own words that he likes to slow the play down. That will not work so well in the NHL with the speed of the back pressure. I would not be apposed to moving him for Laine. It is the additional 2 first rounders that I would hate to give up. But this is the problem when trying to acquire another teams young stars...... you are going to overpay one way or another.

i'm not sure we will be overpaying, assuming he becomes a consistent hight 30 if not 40 goal scorer. Theres maybe 5 or so of those players in the entire league. + we have Gally and we will see what happens with Caulfield in 2-5 years.

Bottom line things have turned around!

I guess my concern is the fact that he is such a one dimensional player right now.Yes he can score goals but his complete game is very poor, his play away from the puck is abysmal. This was the same Knock on Ovy for years. It wasn't until Ovy excepted the fact that he had to do something other than score goals that Washington had success. If Laine could get to that understanding, much sooner than Ovy did than we would have something. Unloading an "A" prospect and a couple of first rounders on a hope that he will become more than he is,,,,is risky thats all.

I think he got the message and thats what affected his production last year. we will have to wait and see if we get him and if it was the right decision. NO one can predict his future...
