2. Labanc still takes a bridge. He remains too unproven to sign too long term. and besides, he will be given a top 6 role this season and next, so he has the chance to break out for a big payday at age 25 in two years. makes sense for him to take the bridge as he may make alot more with a 2 year deal (lower cap) followed by a long term deal (big number), rather than a 3-4 year term at a lower number.
3. Jumbo and patty both come back for under 1M each. Jumbo could get more, but I don't see dougie trading anyone to just give jumbo more money. He invested in jumbo by giving him 8M, then 5M on wonky knees. 1M at age 40 is fair. Patty will take league min as its either play in SJ or retire, and he wants to play another year.
4. One top 9 spot is open for a rookie. I think Chekhovich grabs it out of camp. He's also the kind of player that only makes sense to keep as a sharks if he's in the top9 playing with skilled guys and respectable ice time.
5. Gambrell gets the shot at the 4C spot. They wil look for him to take a big step, as Im sure theyd love to give him the 3C after this season when jumbo is gone. He'll get every chance to prove himself.
Overall, I think this is a year for dougie to see what the farm holds. This year holds the most junior/college to pro transitions along with FA signings (Yurtaikin, Kellman, Sund, Ferraro, Gregor, Chlemevski, Chekhovich, Blichfeld all going pro, along with the advancement of 2nd/3rd year guys like True, Gambrell, Halbegewachs, Disimone, Roy, Wood, and Middletons.
Dougie will know mid year what he has (and what he doesnt) in the farm, and then make midseason or deadline deals appropriately.
Basically, other than jumbo and patty and a bridge for labanc, what you see is what you get!
What I heard previously is that players that are over 35 years of age and played an X amount of NHL games cannot take league minimum. It's required to be around $1 million if I'm correct. That means players like Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau need to be paid above league minimum around the $1 million mark. It's just what I heard though and I'm no expect in the legality, but it sounds about right.

I'm not familiar, but whatever the min number is, that's what the deals will be for. Neither cares about a few 100k, and the cap situation is that tight, so both will take whatever is left over after gambrell and labanc resign.

To be honest, I’m ready for Big Joe to leave too. Little Joe already has gone to Dallas. Big Joe and Patty are both at/turning age 40. I’m fine with a new core group with a new captain and giving young prospects the chance to play at the NHL level.
In regards to Labanc, he did not file for arbitration. So...
1. The sharks have an unofficial deal with him and just not made official/public yet.
2. Both parties haven’t reached any agreement yet.
3. Doug Wilson may be trying to trade him.
4. Doug Wilson has someone as higher priority than Labanc that we just don’t know about.

I've heard the same thing but haven't had it verified to me. That league minimum number for such veterans is $950K by the way -- but again, don't know for certain 100%.
I've come to accept that we have arguably the best d-corps in the league, but that forward corps is definitely a concern for me. I'm trusting DW and PDB here and their teams in evaluating young guys like Chekhovich and determining if they have right-now potential to grab a top-6 spot.
