He's a potentially middle pairing D, but right now his value isn't high. Maybe after an AHL season we can get a better gauge on his value. I think he will be solid 2-3rd pairing guy with a Jake McCabe ceiling.

The piece in that trade is the 2nd for Gusev, which is what I expect that VGK will get for Gusev.

IMO in any Gusev trade, VGK gets a 2nd and a D prospect.

Emphasis on the preliminary...I think Vegas is going to try to squeeze more out of teams because at that price there would be a lot of interest from every team in the league.

Not much room for squeezing when they are openly searching for a trade partner and have no room to sign him.

Montreal trades Chariot and a 2nd for Gusev...see what I did there, now I've just set the bar higher for other teams interested. Depending on how high a team values the player it could go up much higher in a bidding war.

Why not just offer sheet Gusev at 4x4? The offer sheet compensation there is only a second round pick so we wouldn't have to lose a prospect too.
