Description

Loui will be traded for a 2nd & 3rd round pick, so the Canucks can contend for the playoffs as soon as possible in the 2020 off season. However, by the trade deadline in 2020, I would trade Tanev, Sutter and Baertschi to Colorado for a 1st round pick, if he signs an extension with them. And that’s assuming Sutter and Baertschi remain heathy and not tank their trade value. Sutter and Baertschi should should give them a lot of offensive depth, which they lack. Sutter and Baertschi will also only have 1 year left on their contract, and they can either let them walk or sign team friendly deals with them. They will have all the leverage, and won’t be bogged down by the term.

As for signing Pettersson and Hughes the year after. Edler will be off the books, that’s $6M. Canucks will probably deal Markstrom before the expansion draft, so that’s $3.6M. Benn’s contract will be up too, along with Fantenberg, that’s $3M. And the cap should go up $2M. Also, Canucks already will have $5.4M in cap space. It all adds up to $20M. Petey and Hughes will at most cost $18M. They will have enough to cover that. And unless Edler signs a cheap deal for $2M or $3M, he won’t return as a Vancouver Canuck in 2021.

Yeah...the Avs defense is in good shape now, and should be one of the best in the league in a few years. Very hard pass on this "offer."

Tanev is one of the best shutdown defensemen in the league. Colorado have offensive defensemen, not defensive D. As for Sutter, he is a great 3C. He is better than Wilson. As for Baertschi, he is a potential 30 goal scorer. And can at least be relied upon scoring 20 goals a season. He will be great on their 2nd/3rd line. This trade will give Colorado lots of depth, which they do need. They have stud forwards, but pretty weak bottom 6 forwards. And if Tanev walks, then it’s only a 2nd Round Pick. Also, that 1st will be a late pick anyways, it’s not like it’s a lottery pick. Colorado will be desperate like most other teams to improve their depth at the trade deadline, and Sutter & Baertschi will be great options. Tanev, a Top 4 D, could also play 20+ minutes. And help the young defensive core mature. These sort of trades are normal during the trade deadline.

Sutter is a terrible hockey player who has been Injured major over the past 2 seasons and baert isn’t good enough to crack the avs top 9. So a 1st rounder for 2 guys who will be on the IR and a healthy scratch
