They'll have to dump someone to sign petterson and right now rust looks like a redundant skillset with the recent acquisitions of McCann, kahun, and tanev. They've lost some goal scoring and Carter is only 2 years older than kessel. for having to dump rust already, and ridding themselves of Johnson, the first rounder can be used to get something back. Carter still has some gas left and can still score and at 4 million x 3 years, Its a better position then Johnson at 3.25 x 4 years. Otherwise they will dump rust for a pick, keep Johnson and be a worse team then last year.
