Maybe the nucks can convince LA for a straight up trade.

Change it to Carter instead of Kovi and the Kings would do it. Kings are in the same boat the Canucks are. Trying to get rid of bad contracts ASAP. They wouldn't take an extra year of bad contract. As posted, I think the Kings say no.

Carter and Kovalchuck are still NHL quality players, even if their contracts are overvalued. Eriksson doesn't belong in the NHL anymore. 3rd round pick and an ok prospect would get you $725k of relief for the same term, but you also get a player that can actually produce on a decent team instead of dead weight. Kings are going to suck for the next few years anyway, so a little more dead weight doesn't hurt as long as they get some futures.

Kings are not going to trade Kovalchuk and retain salary for Ericksson. Kovi can still score and will be off the books in two years. Ericksson will keep sucking up cap space for the next four years
