Description

Gardiner may accept a 1 year deal with a high cap like Simmonds did to try and get his value up. Teams are not offering him a long contract that he's looking for because of injury concerns. He could come in for 1 season by the Devils to give time for Smith and Butcher to develop.

First off no way does Gardiner sign a 1 year deal, he's 29 and looking for term.

Second VGK is trying to shed salary not gain so even retaining Vat's contract doesn't do them any good

I agree with you on the Vat trade. I think there's a possibility that Gardiner is not getting offered the long term contract he wants so there's a chance he could take the same route Simmonds did with a 1 year overpay to prove that his injury concerns are behind him.
