A. Hedman would be worth hell of a lot more than Mete (vastly over valued by Habs fans) a 3rd line center and a 1st

B. Hedman isn't on 4.5 AAV for four more years

C. Gostisbehere isn't getting traded unless it's a deal too good to refuse so this is all moot anyway

The deal this person offered to Gost is ridiculous. Massive overpayment

he's a 40-60 point, LH puck moving D man on a sweetheart deal for 4 years. this is something that MTL does not have, either in there pipeline or on their roster.

for

An RFA Defenseman who is okay at everything and not great at anything
a 1 yr rental 3rd line center who doesn't perform in the playoffs
a mid round 1st

Mete already played 2 seasons top pairing at 19-20 yo. Some people wouldn’t do Mete vs Gost straight up

It’s not at all a massive overpayment Mete will most like be no more than a 3-4 Dman in his career.. Eakin is a third liner who only has a year left and the first seals the deal pretty fair trade in my mind

Mete is way better than Gost defensively, he just needs to put numbers now. He practiced is shot all summer long. Just wait

Mete is a 5'9" Defenseman who in two seasons doesn't have a goal and a grand total of 20 points, all assists. most players on the habs last year had a better CF% without Mete than they did with him. he plays well positionally, in that he reads defensive plays well & knows where to be and uses his stick efficiently, but he's a drag on offense and a drag on offense is not what you want from someone of his size and speed playing D.

yup, bc putting up 40 points a year from the blue line is that simple. the kid is never going to get there, I'm sorry. he reminds a lot of Thomas Hickey early on. smart small and speedy D that the Kings thought they could turn into an elite point scoring D with good defensive instincts. It's just not going to happen. he's never had an nhl quality shot or good shooting instincts, you can't just teach that.
