Trade With Rangers

Description
The Oilers have gotten better this offseason; signing a legitimate (if shaky) NHL backup, dipping into Europe and potentially graduating prospects are all positive steps for the Oilers to take heading into a new season.

One issue that remains is that of Jesse Puljujarvi, who’s threat to leave for Europe if he isn’t traded, I imagine is still on the table. Perhaps Edmonton should let him leave, allow him to develop overseas and come back when he’s the player they thought they drafted. Or they could trade him for less impressive, if proven help at the NHL level.

Enter the Rangers, a sleeping giant fresh off a yearlong (lol) rebuild and back into trouble managing the salary cap. They’ll likely have to make a couple moves to get all their ducks in a row, but perhaps a good one is trading Vlad Namestnikov, a struggling forward with a history of excelling with good players. Just a season ago, he scored 20 goals on Steven Stamkos’ wing, who says he couldn’t do the same with McDavid? He hasn’t really fit in New York and they need to move the space. Could be a good fit in Edmonton, if you ask me.

The Rangers also take Brandon Manning back and either bury or cut him; the Oilers need to free up some space too and taking back a bury-able contract would be a small favor to ask, in exchange for a potentially high reward prospe

This is essentially Namestnikov 1M retained for Puljujärvi after Manning is burried. Why trade for a 1 year UFA rental? Doesn't really help Oilers more then in the shortest of terms. Look at the roster. Is this a playoff team? No, this is the opposite of what Oilers should do.

I would like Oilers to hold onto JP until such time that he can be traded for decent value / equally struggling prospect.

Roslovic in WPG aint struggling but he has made several trade requests, maybe someone like him could be moved. I could see an interest in uniting Laine/JP

I've suggested that in the past too and I think that's an equally good idea. I like this one though because it's a guy who has a history of playing well and may fit well upfront. He can always be re-signed next offseason if he plays well. Maybe you don't even trade Puljujarvi for him. Either way, I think it's a good fit; definitely worth trying when you've been spinning your wheels for as long as Edmonton has been
