Backes is only owed another 5M over the next two seasons which makes him a very good candidate to have his Cap retained. Trade him to Ottawa with prospect (Not necessarily Cehlarik but possibly Bjork). Where Ottawa retains salary and flips him as a bottom 6 player with around a 3M cap hit. Still a great piece to have in the locker room and good tough guy for the 3rd or 4th line.

Horrible deal for Edmonton. Trading Nurse and Draisaitl who are gonna be key players for the next 6+ years for a 33 year old and a 28 year old on an expiring contract just to free up 1M in cap for one season (assuming Krug resigns) for Heinen and a 2nd?

As long as you realize it was just fun because everyone, Backes, Krug, Krejci, Edmonton, Ottawa all decline these.

The least you could have done was flip Looch afterwards. Then it would have been fun.

How many times do we need to say that Edmonton is on Krug's no trade list? He wont waive to go there. It's already been reported from several key NHL insiders. That if Krug leaves Boston he's probably going home to Detroit.
