Add some depht to make sure all our prospects can play a full season in Binghampton. The caphit doesn't hurt us ths season but if he doesn't play good enough just buy him out next summer. Use that sweetener at the deadline to aquire a LD that can play on the top line.

It would be VERY tough to fit $6m in salary for Backes next season if the Devils expect to keep Taylor Hall.

What would the buyout penalty be for him if he was bought out next year?

Also, doesn't backes have a ntc?

I imagine he isnt thrilled with boston considering they sat him game 7 against the team he captained, I'm sure he's willing to waive (for someone, not specifically nj) ... does not address cap space for next year though, a compensatory first could go along way for an offersheet though lol cue the hype!

and to answer your question I believe 4MM

I think Shero may be able to make 4M work if he bought that contract out in year 2. I'm not sure I'd like to do that deal though unless Boston gives good compensation for taking on that contract.

I also don't think Shero will do it because then Backes will likely slot in on the 4th line right wing (If not he won't waive his ntc) and that will take a roster spot away from a prospect trying to to get some NHL experience.

backes has a 15 team trade list starting this year.

if cap is an issue boston may be winning to retain salary. wouldn't be getting the first though.

Not for sure. Don‘t forget that we‘ve got about 15 mil comming of the books in Vatanen/Greene and Simmonds. As of today it‘s not sure any of these players will still be there in 20/21.

We‘ll likely see 2 forward prospects this season in Hughes and Boqvist - for me that‘s enough. Let the others play a full season in Bing, that‘s best for them.

If you're keeping Hall you'll need about $24m in space for Hall, Hischier, Bratt and Blackwood alone – and then you'll need to fill out your roster.

Your scenario ends with about $31m and 12 players signed.
