I think $7M is an overpayment for Gardiner. I don't think he is as bad as a lot of Leafs fans make him out to be but $7M is almost double what he made last year.

I would top out at $6M for him but Aedoran is right about perception being in TO. From what I've seen and heard over the years he's been given a rougher ride than others.

Gardiner = Larry Murphy. Murphy was "awful" in Toronto, and the fans ran him out of town. He comes to DET, wins 2 cups, plays great. He killed penalties, started in the D zone, and still scored about .5 PPG for his DET career.

Didn't hurt that he had the best Dman of his era as his partner, I understand that part. But, putting all the blame on Gardiner for TOR's poor defense is way off base (as it was with Murphy).

Risto, on the other hand, is the reason why BUF's defense is awful.
