Sharks could add picks and prospects if needed. The idea would be for TB to save some salary cap if they feel like negotiations stall, or if they feel the asking price from Point is too high. At this point, it looks like TB will have to ship out some significant salary to get Point and Erne signed.

Why not just wait and see what happens first? Also, Meier just got signed on a team-friendly deal. I don’t think it looks good for the Sharks organization to just trade him away after. (Although they did that to Setoguchi for Burns.) Usually, free agents stay clear from a franchise that does that and it kind of “blacklists” them.
