The question was never "can we keep Kreider" though. The question is "should we extend him long term" and that's where it gets more difficult because he's going to be out for a contract like Kevin Hayes and Anders Lee got and the Rangers will have long term commitments to guys like Panarin and Trouba, Zib will need a re-up, players coming off of bridge deals like Buch and DeAngelo, and a boatload of young players to extend after their ELCs expire, Chytil, Andersson, Howden, Kravtsov, Kakko, Fox, Shesterkin, Hajek, potentially Lindgren and Georgiev. It's not that easy to say extending Kreider is a good idea because there's a lot of money that needs to be allocated and having 35yo Kreider at 7m could be a problem.
