I have no clue on Wolanin, only things I know is that he's 24 years old and played mostly in the affiliate of the worst team in the league last season. He can be changed to some other asset, if necessary.
I constructed the trade as Strome+Gropp for 2nd, Smith+Georgiev for Condon+Wolanin(which can be changed, just a goalie+d swap).
Figured that OTT might have a slot for Strome. Also since they have cap space OTT could be a potential team to dump Smith into. Also took Condon from their roster. Georgiev would probably be the most valuable goalie of that team after the trade.
Wolanin is the genuine article. Great offensive instincts, and incredible speed and lateral mobility. Reads the play really well.
He played in the AHL last season because Max Lajoie endeared himself to Guy Boucher early on, and was given way too much rope when he should not have been in the NHL.
Wolanin on the other hand proved that he was well beyond the AHL, being the 1D and one of the most dangerous offensive weapons on that squad. He had the most low key 5 point night anyone has ever had in hockey history. When Marc Crawford gave him a chance to spread his wings, he took off, looking like a reliable top 4 Dman behind Chabot. He made Cody Ceci look the best he ever looked in Ottawa in my opinion.
As a rule, I don't think Ottawa should be giving up assets like this for players who won't be meaningful pieces of the team when they are eventually good. Now, Georgiev
might be that, but it still doesn't make a lot of sense when they already have the deep crop of talented goalie prospects. Goalies are hard to really gauge, but it's very unlikely that Ottawa whiffs on all of the guys they have.
