Description
The way I see it, Schenn won’t be a part of the Blues long-term. He’s a very good player with a lot of value, but he wants to play center and the Blues aren’t gonna pay him Kevin Hayes money with O’Reilly and Thomas in the fold. Since the Blues are contenders, it’s unlikely they trade him for a futures based package. I think the basis of a Schenn trade is a young middle-6 player with a decent prospect or a bigger trade for a top LHD prospect. In this trade, the Blues get Bennett, who’s a great player with 50 point potential in the right situation and Pettersson who is a really interesting prospect. The Blues also take on Stone and retain on Schenn in order for the Flames to sign Tkachuk.

Is Fabbri a bust? I feel like Kylington would be more enticing than Bennett since your LD pool is pretty shallow and he's just about NHL ready. Otherwise I do like the concept. Schenn would be a great fit with Tkachuk and I would love to get him. If he hits FA next year i think hes at the top of the Flames radar.

Fabbri is one injury away from being completely done. So he could still pan out, but he’s walking on eggshells

I’m not too high on Kylington. I think he’s a good player, but he’s not exempt for Seattle and we’d likely lose him. I think Bennett could fill a gap that Schenn left while maybe finding his offensive game.

Not sure why we'd ever take Stone in this deal.

I guess that is a bit unnecessary, but I did it to make it easier for Calgary so we can get a really good prospect like Pettersson. Plus, burying him in the minors keeps us 2 million below the ceiling.

On HF Boards an blues fan and I agreed on this as a trade:

Frolik + Kylington
(conditional 2nd if Schenn resigns)

For

Schenn + 4th
(4th becomes a 3rd if Frolik resigns)

I don’t like it. We’d lose Kylington to Seattle and then we’d be stuck with just Frolik who’s older than Schenn and can’t replace him in the slightest. I’d rather keep Schenn as an “own rental” at that point.

all fair but I really hate the idea of trading away Schenn. IMO his future value is not worth losing his impact on the Blues cup chances this year.
Blues are in a good position not to hurt themselves in a win now and they could always flip Schenn at the deadline if they aren't contending and could likely get a first (like they did with Stastny). There';s no reason he needs to burn a hole in their pocket
