Team is built to win now. One year deals allow Panarin to be re-signed, and then flexibility to bring back the more effective of the veterans after the season.
Kruger’s loss hurts, but ideally either Lundberg or Moose proves to be able to take over the 4C on the checking line and anchor the PK next year. Desy will help fill that void for at least the 16-17 season, and Hartman is ready for NHL minutes.
Top 4 D looks very solid, with Kempny hopefully taking Campbell’s second pairing spot in 2017-2018. Campbell will serve as a very productive bridge to 17-18 when Pokka is ready, then a combination of Pokka/Gus/TVR (one will likely be lost in expansion) will make up that third pairing, Forsling ready for a 6/7 role at that point too.
Third line is very young but loaded with skill, Panik provides a physical, net front presence and serves as the “Anisimov” for his other two skilled line mates.
Campbell/Ladd deals fill our two biggest holes at the moment, top line left winger and a second pairing defenseman with Seabrook. Perfect pair as they are both familiar faces and have stressed desire to play in Chicago. Deal puts Ladd in a great position to be successful, where he can then get paid elsewhere next off-season.
I would distribute the money between Ladd and Campbell more so towards Ladd, I still don't think he will stay for less than $4 million. Simple fix though. I think this might be the best way to go honestly, Kruger is valuable but at this point with the place the Hawks are in cap-wise, he needs to go. He isn't worth that much to us right now. I think having Ladd and Campbell give us a better chance to win than having Kruger and someone else.
Yeah, I love Kruger and he is a valuable player but his services aren't worth 3+ million, at least not right now with the cap situation we're in. These two would fill our two biggest needs, with Kruger's PK role being distributed among a few of the 4th liners. Getting Campbell to play for 2 million would be the tough part, but if so, give Ladd his 4 and we have a great chance to win.
