Description

The Girardi contract is up there amongst the worst in the league and is a heavy albatross for the next 4 years. That said, he can provide a useful veteran presence in a bottom pairing role and plays the right side. The cost of taking on his contract is a solid prospect with upside. In this case, Tambellini, who most likely projects as a middle six LW but has the potential upside of a 1st/2nd line centre. Add in the cap relief from including Burrows in this trade and it starts to look favourable for VAN. For NYR, they get out from under Girardi's contract, take back an overpaid (3mil) but useful third line winger in Burrows who has solid possession numbers and can play a shutdown/PK role and only has one year remaining. The 4th round pick is a sweeter for NYR (picks in the 2-6 rounds can be added either side to balance the trade).

Overpayment in AAV for Lucic but rather that on a 4 yr than 6x6.

Rangers would have to sweeten the deal a lot more since burrows has 1 year left and girardi has 4 at a higher AAV
