Trade for Jesse Pulj

Created by: jimmyjets
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 29, 2019
Published: Aug. 29, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pulj is going scorched earth with the Oilers and is approaching bust status. We give a conditional pick if he manages to be a serviceable top 9 winger and a more expensive vet in Perreault that helps them this year and next. We retain on Perreault but we still get some breathing room with the cap.

  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse [Reserve List]
EDM
  1. Perreault, Mathieu ($1,500,000 retained)
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
2020 is a deep draft so the pick is conditional for 2021. If Pulj scores more than 40 points in either of the next 2 seasons the Oilers get a second round pick.

We retain salary so the Oilers cap works.

Add couple of $100K in his salary and it works

A conditional pick based on production is really interesting for a Puljujarvi trade (others may have posted one, but this is the first time I've seen it). This is a pretty solid proposal.

As a Jets fan this is pretty reasonable in my eyes. Love Perreault but we simply cannot afford his cap hit next year, we can definitely sign Jesse to a team friendly contract and I would be okay with giving up a second round pick in 2021 if he can find his game and start producing top 6 points for us.

I think the conditional pick is actually extremely likely in almost any case as a team will need to develop him under their system from square one and build his game which will take a year or two, and then if he fits the bill and is productive a team would not mind paying the conditional. That is unless a team is willing to give up a first or good prospect, which I think is too high of a gamble and unlikely.

On Edmonton's side they are getting a versatile player who can play and produce anywhere throughout their lineup and if they end up with a second round pick, come out alright.

I like the gamble!

Like it. I’d play around with the lines though. Either:

Laine Scheifele Pulju
Connor Little Wheeler
Ehlers Roslovic Vesalainen
Copp Lowry Appleton

Then you get the Finns back together, make JP play a defensive game while Laine shoots and Scheif sets him up, or:

Laine Scheifele Ehlers
Connor Little Wheeler
Copp Lowry Pulju
Vesa Roslo Apple

And have him on a shutdown line.
I know he’s not a C but that’s how Scheifele got better, worked on his defensive game, then let the offence kick in later
