Laine to Montreal

Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 12, 2019
Published: Sep. 12, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Montreal gets:
- A young franchise goal scorer in the early of his prime,
- He gets to play with a bunch of fellow countrymen,
- A bigger Canadian market where he is likely second to popularity to only Price, not behind Scheifele, Wheeler, arguably Hellebuyck and Connor, etc.
Signing:
- Canadiens sign Laine to a 3 year, 25.5 million dollar deal that pays him 9mil this year, 7mil the next, and the final year being 9.5mil, which is an AAV for 8.5/yr.
Winnipeg gets:
- A Top Prospect who is very likely to pan out,
- A veteran Top 6 Winger for 2 years at just under 5mil,
- A middle to late 2nd Round Pick
- Jets’ old 4th Round Pick back, they love to trade for old picks.
So basically... the Pacioretty return.

In terms of value it might be there. I just think it doesn't address the Jets immediate needs (2C and RHD)

Y’all gotta add more for Winnipeg to bite maybe take the picks out and put a 2021 first (I know the 2020 is off limits), or both 2020 2nds If Montreal would Take it and it would def get there attention but laines value is so up in the air

That make sense. Is Ristolainen for Laine more likely , if likely at all? Little just doesn't cut it eh? There is a chance that Suzuki could be a middle 6 C next year. Roslovic could possibly step into that role and be effective. Little could Dustin Brown it and have a small career resurrection, even if it's just for a year. I mean those are the things that are hard to predict but do happen.

Or the classic 1st round pick trade that happens these days. *Conditional 2020 1st round pick that is Top 10 or 15 protected, pick becomes 2021 or some thing like that.

Suzuki is good but I really dont think the jets would want tatar, we still have a load of winger depth. if there looking for more of a "win now" package I would say they ask for danault or petry. Drouin wouldn't be bad either as he could actually crack our top 6. either way, I think this trade still needs more value.

Well, I think the Jets suffered a big loss with losing Trouba and Myers and now their D looks a little thin. I suppose it would be ideal to trade Laine for a replacement in that area, that totally makes sense. But if that doesn't happen, Winnipeg has an opportunity to take a bit of a hit this season due to them not being able to figure out that D situation, get some pieces to build with while still having good players on long contracts, still early in their prime, aside from their Captain but he'll be fine because he's a Giordano/all-star in his mid 30s type, so there's time. Reinforce the core in the next coming years. A Scheifele/Suzuki for their top 2 centres would be deadly.

Any trade for Laine will probably not yield full value unfortunately but because WPG doesn't have a gun to their heads, they can afford to wait it out and that is the best option for them.. IMO

IF they decided "**** it, lets just get what we can for him, this year", Habs could offer a package that makes sense but it will not be what Jets fans expect. Still very good value but not what they'll expect. Trading Laine is the least valuable option IMO. Getting him signed is the best overall option.
