Can’t see NYR or CAR making these trades. Both teams on the ride. What does Carolina need with a very old Koivu who is injury prone in exchange for a big free agent signing who can make a difference?

NYR also feels they’re on the cusp of the playoffs and don’t plan to ship out two of their better young RFAs and a top prospect for spurgeon and a first.

The draft board you've created there looks like the dance card for a team like Boston or St. Louis that needs very little maintenance to keep its Stanley Cup window open for two or three years. Does the Minnesota team you show here look anything like a Stanley Cup winner? Keep the draft picks.

As to the trades themselves: Las Vegas is in the market for defensemen, particularly RD's. Guerin didn't sign Spurgeon to a long extension in order to trade him AND a first for a guess and two mid-level forwards. I doubt St. Louis is trading away one of its top 3 prospects for Pateryn and a second, and the less said about that Provorov trade, the better.

Koivu is injury prone? Are you sure you know what injury prone means?

OK maybe not injury prone but he missed half the season with a torn ACL and still may miss the beginning of this season.

He played in a scrimmage this week at camp and is supposed to play this weekend, so he'll be good to go by season opener. Still remains to be seen how well he can play and this may be his last season if he doesn't want to play somewhere else and the Wild don't extend him, so I agree it's a bad trade for Carolina. Just not because of him being "injury prone".
