1st Day of NHL with explanations

Created by: eternalrisk
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 14, 2019
Published: Sep. 19, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Because of bonuses and LTIR. Put Dermott and Liljegren (looks ready for NHL action) in open night against cap so bonus won’t count when using LTIR calls mid season. Hopefully Liljegren stays whole year or will come back at end of the year or some major roster cap downsizing. Sandin no bonus. He is good if called up. BACKUP GOALIE PLEASE STAND UP. Maybe end of preseason trade with some cap being eaten by trade team to fit cap with us.
When Hyman comes back 20 man roster might be in cards.(inefficiently to have money in pressbox anyways) Or trade.

To my knowledge liljegren can make the team out of camp and not have his bonuses count against cap. It is only if he is called up. The other issue is that you are still using ltir, even if you leave Dermott on ir if he is called up the bonus is still counted towards the cap. One last thing, liljegren’s bonus is less than dermotts cap his so just leave Dermott in ltir.

Just checked bonuses on cap friendly for both players. Dermott has no bonuses and Liljegren has $400 000 to give extra cap hit if called up. I taught everyone was talking about Dermott and bonuses also. Guess we wore wrong He can go to LTIR also. 20 man roster here we come either way if no trades.

No it’s the other way around... you would want Dermott to have bonuses... that makes a bonus relief pool.

Leafs can run a 23 man roster till Hyman returns. Then a 21 man roster from then on. Personally I think they have to trade Hyman.

I have to be honest, if this offseason has taught me anything is that the Leafs never HAVE to do anything. They might if it gives them flexibility, but they won't HAVE to.

I am not sure I see them trading a top-6 forward off of a playoff contending roster for what I would have to assume would be a draft pick. Not the way winning teams are built. A short roster might be the answer, I also think the Leafs are going to lead the league in paper transactions this year to try and save cap room.

It's a crazy situation, and it will be interesting to see how they manage it.

Johnsson-Matthews-nylander
Kappanen-Tavares-Marner

When Hyman returns he will most likely not be thrown into a top 6 role.

If the leafs have two simultaneous injuries they will pretty much be forced to make a trade. One more injury and they would be down to 16 skaters...

Checked Dermott contract in capfriendly and no bonuses this year on there. He signing bonuses of 92k last 3 years nothing this year. Liljegren has 400k potential (won’t happen) but that full amount would have be to calculated against cap if called up middle of season. And there is no cap savings for unused portion of cap sending people down, only max that you had on day 1 of season. If Hyman comes in @ 2.1 mil than that is what is needed off from from top of day 1 of season. This is prorated of course but NO accumulation of unused cap with LITR. That would mean like 3 players making 700k from day 1 are not in big league active roster when Hyman is inserted.

Hyman does not come back pro rated. We are still in ltir. His full 2.25m will count against the cap. Hyman’s Relief will be subtracted and his cap hit added.

As I said before leafs can run a 23 man roster till Hyman returns then s 21 man roster afterwards.

I think what you weren’t understanding was the bonus relief pool. Not that it matters much because Dermott will return.

There is no bonus performance relief pool to be used unless someone with bonuses gets hurt for some time from now until end of preseason to apply to litr. That is why Liljegren is better starting with us and see if he sticks or he most likely won’t be recalled until base+ performance bonus potential is opened in cap for him to return during season.

Why do you keep repeating what I say and act like I’m on the opposite side?

All I said in my first poster is to put Dermott on ltir. That will give you room for another healthy scratch.

Hi Jamiepo,

All is well, in your comments you wore not clear that you are aware that Dermott has no bonuses in his contract.
