Not really. Guys that can do everything and lead their team to a cup final are more valuable in my eyes than one dimensional players

I could 9 guys on your list alone that I prefer to Karlsson and Burns. McAvoy is one of them. Krug is not. This kind of got off topic though. The point is, there is no possible way a rational hockey fan can look at McAvoy, and then look at Krug, and say to themselves: “yup, Krug does more to help you win a hockey game than McAvoy.”

Edit: It should be noted that I’m not one of those that thinks that Karlsson was always a disaster in his own end. He wasn’t. The changes to his game due to injury have really hampered his efforts to be a well rounded defensemen. Teams dump it in his corner now. They never used to.

I agree in the sense that I don't think that they are the clear cut #2 and #3 in the league, but to put them very far outside of the top 5, let alone 10 is a stretch. Let me put it this way because I'm just curious: do you consider mcavoy a top 10 defensemen and if yes what is your top 10 ranking?

ya, i think he is. It's close, and I certainly understand why some would scoff at it, but I tend to put d men that can play at a very high level in all situations ahead of those that can play extremely well in one end of the ice. If you're in a game 7 of the stanley cup final with the sharks and you're protecting a one goal lead on the penalty kill, Erik Karlsson and Brent Burns aren't jumping over the boards.

If there's a minute left in a game 7 and the bruins are in any situation (except maybe with me sitting their watching them lose 4-1), McAvoy is on the ice.
The top ten is something totally different that would take me some time to run down. Karlsson would still be there if he could stay healthy, but his legs just aren't the same. On that list would be Pietrangelo, maybe even Parayko, Seth Jones, Victor Hedman, Drew Doughty, Slavin, Dumba is a guy I would think about putting up there. Sometimes Morgan Reilly looks like he's a lock, and then he does something that makes me scratch my head. Josi is probably on that list. and ya, McAvoy likely.
