Actually a pretty reasonable trade.....if the Leafs are happy with a short term gain.(two UFAs) and Flames are happy with little hit on the ice this year but like the longer term of Kapanen.

Ew as the Leafs. I really don't want to give Kapanen up for no long-term gain. We already spent Kadri for that on Barrie.

The Leafs got Kerfoot in the trade also. The Leafs could make the trade if they are confident Timashov and Korshov are NHLers, Then you Kapanen's replacement at 1m and more 2.2m more cap space to sign that Dman who is needed. But I understand your concern.

I see the logic but I just don't see a Ceci for Bodie upgrade being worth selling kapi's future

(Calling Frolik this year over kapi not a huge change)

I'd do it for someone better than Bodie...

To be fair apparently Kadri nixed a similar deal with Bodie and Jankowski. So the Leafs would be interested.
