Description
Picking Jamie Drysdale in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft rounds out the back end quite nicely when it comes to the future.

Plus, Petey and Hughes will be signed already and a year after this, Roussel, Beagle, and Eriksson will come off the books for a total of 12m.

No way hughes gets that much, he has to finish at least most of a season first and depending on his production and defensive stats then maybe and it also depends if hes considered better than every other defender on the team.

Pettersson will also probably make a lot less and probably a shorter term deal too because of that kind of like the boeser deal.

Beagle should be resigned but having eriksson and roussel gone or making a lot less money is exciting, could sign an all star of the free agent list or trade for one who would probably be making as much or less money as the canucks just gained in cap space

If anything, I would say we should be prepared to give Hughes and Pettersson MORE than that for that term (which I would prefer). Markstrom will definitely require more than that to sign as well.

We also have to re-sign Boeser at the end of that year, so a bunch of the money saved by those expiring contracts will go towards that.

At that point, it might be best to just give up the assets for someone to take Eriksson for 1-2 years.

well in two years the defenders he has to compete with are Myers, Edler, and Stecher so I think he'll definitely be considered the best lol. He's got two years to prove he's worth that much and I think it really depends on the comparables around the league because on one hand you could make the case that in two years he'll be in the conversation of Vlasic, Suter, and Trouba who are making 7-8m but on the flip side Hedman makes 7.8 and he definitely won't be compared to him.
