I certainly hope Detroit doesn't trade Athanasiou or Mantha for Fowler, let alone both of them.

Yeah, go hit the showers if that's the deal you want lol. Fowler is a 2nd pairing guy at best

I wasn't 100% sure on Athanasiou or Mantha's ceilings so kind of took a guess. What if Ducks added a solid defensive prospect like Montour? Also, wouldn't Fowler be your #2 behind maybe Kronwall?

with the wings cap situation we can't really take on a $4million defender. Giving up smith relieves a part of that pressure but in terms of shot suppression and generation smith was our best dman last year.

Honestly the only way I would take fowler is if you're taking Ericsson or kronwall back the other way. Obviously that makes no sense for ANA.

So to answer you question, yes and no.

If you were to throw in montour and take out fowler I could see a deal being done (obviously for less than what is proposed here but it's a good start). But I know ANA is trying to unload fowler and free up the cap room so finding a match is tricky.

Now I ask you, what would you say to a one for one nyquist or Tatar for say...Shea Theodore? Both nyquist and Tatar are legit wingers who would thrive in Anaheim's more high event system. I would bet my reputation that they could put up 25-35 goals on a top line for the ducks (both have come close to 30 goals in DET's much less exciting, more suppressing system). However, I know that Theodore is projected to be a stud. Would you be willing to deal from your excess dmen for a stud winger? If you're worried about taking on salary with only giving up a prospect then would you take Mantha? Because in my option that would be fair value.

A deal that I would like to see is either nyquist or Tatar for either montour or Theodore and a mid level pick. I may be off my rocker but we have excess wingers, you have excess dmen. And I am not even asking for someone who was on your NHL roster last year so the ducks throwing in a third rounder seems reasonable.

Unfortunately (and sometimes fortunately), Ducks have an internal cap and can't add any more salary without moving Fowler, Stoner or Bieksa. Theodore looked very solid last year and will be with the big club for a majority of the season. Other than Lindholm, Theodore is probably the most untouchable of the Ducks defensemen.

He is protected from the expansion draft and on an entry level contract. You'd have to send over Larkin and work out picks on either side to make that happen in my opinion. That's how valuable Theodore is.

Nyquist is a little expensive for my tastes and I would prefer Tatar. But any deal for an NHL player from the Ducks is going to require Fowler or Stoner going the other way and I can't imagine the Wings want the Stone Man.

If the ducks can manage to unload fowler or stoner and replace them with Theodore or montour then you guys will be better for it. I'm not familiar with fowler or stoner's usual deployment (2nd/3rd pair or whatever) but their underlying possession numbers make them not worth giving up nyquist or Tatar. Anything close to a fowler for nyquist 1 for 1 would be very good for the ducks and very bad for wings

As for Mantha and AA in some ways they're more valuable than Tatar and nyquist because-like you mentioned for Theodore-they are cost controlled for several years.
