Description
I know that a lot of people might disagree with me on this, but I'll say it anyway. Given the way this Pens team has played, they have demonstrated that they are a top team and cup contender. In each of the last 6 games, they have had most of the possession and offensive zone time. They have around 40 shots per game. They would've won every time if it wasn't for goaltending and some timely lapses. They faced some very good teams during this stretch as well (Bruins, Islanders).

When Crosby and Letang come back from injury, we can only expect things to get better. So far, the Penguins are looking like the 2016 team which dominated their way to the Stanley Cup. If they keep this up, the rest of the league better watch out.

That said, with all the depth players playing so well, I think the team can add some more firepower. It is my dream to get Mitch Marner, and while that will probably never happen, here's my twist on a trade. Let me know what you think in the comment section.

Well, I don't really agree. Marner hasn't been playing well and has a really large contract which lowers his value. Galchenyuk is an extremely talented player who has been missed time due to injury plus he's been put with players like Blandisi and Simon since Sid and Geno have both missed time. He's had some looks with both elite centers so if he's used properly I don't see why he wouldn't produce goals. Bjugstad is a really reliable, versatile player with some size and good hands. The Leafs are getting two excellent pieces plus a top pick. I personally think Marner has been overvalued by fans outside the Leaf fanbase.

Marner hasn’t been playing well and he still has 18 pts in 18 games. While his contract does lower the value in a trade, there’s no way Toronto is retaining salary. You would have to give up a 1st, Schultz , and your top D prospect at least.

That would be Addison, who I don't think the Leafs are interested in. They would rather take Galchenyuk who has elite raw talent.

Galchenyuk is inconsistent and he’ll be a UFA on July 1st.

Ok then so if you think Marner is overvalued, and Galchenyuk is extremely talented and Bjugstad is really reliable, why even make the trade? You dont get a talent like Marner for a bottom 6 center, a UFA top 6 forward, and a late 1st

Just because Marner is overvalued doesn’t mean he’s not good. When he’s playing at his best, I think he’s a top 5 or top 10 right winger in the world. He’s just not worth what people think he’s worth: a top line winger (I.e Seguin/Gaudreau/Hall) or a top defenseman (i.e Parayko, Pesce, Dumba). A large part of that is because of his contract. To get Bjugstad, Galchenyuk (with contract extension) and a 1st, that’s as much as it can be. I just don’t think Galchenyuk is getting the opportunity in Pittsburgh while Bjugstad, he’s good but Bluegers has shown that he can play in his spot just fine.

It would be easier to get Nylander to fit under the cap, however, I think he would cost greater assets such as Letang because he’s on such a good contract. Marner is the better overall player IMO and a solid point per game player. If he joins the Pens they would be unstoppable.

Well in my scenario, Galchenyuk would be extended before this trade.

That’s what I was trying to get to plus his contract is one of the best and he will really improve with Sid and geno
