I get the idea but there is no sense in trading Gal for Kreider when there is no chance either could be re-signed next year and giving up a 1st to boot.

If the Pens are going to trade Galchenyuk, it's gotta be for someone of Marner's caliber.

At this point, isn't Gal a negative return for any team that trades? He is truly in the cap dump category.

if this team can weather the storm with Crosby out, they will make the playoffs.
If they can't, they won't. They will know in 6 weeks if they are playoff bound. With the caps already 5 games a head, there isn't much room for error, it's a tight race in the east.

I don't think he's a cap dump. I think he's waiting for a team to pay him a contract so he isn't more worried about his next contract instead of playing hockey.
Right now he looks like he doesn't want to get hurt because he thinks he's hitting the open market. You saw the same crap last year out of Matt Duchene when CBJ traded for him. He wasn't interested in playing hockey, which is why they barely made the playoffs. He just wanted to not get hurt and sign his deal.
So it really depends how you look at it. If a team thinks he's a solution long term, he has value. If they don't they are probably wasting their time.
I have this sense with him, he's tired of being traded and wants to go where he wants to play. If it turns out any better there is up to anyone's guess.

This is probably the stupidest take I've seen in a while. Why aren't they going to make the playoffs? Have you not seen the way the Penguins have played over the past 8 games? They've been heavily outplaying their opponents every night, literally skating circles around them. They've used their speed, forechecked relentlessly and play in the offensive zone the majority of the time. Every game they have around 40 shots on net while only conceding 20-25. Yet you think a team that plays like this is not a playoff team? They're playing like the 2016 championship team. If not for poor goaltending, they would've won 8 straight games! Keep in mind this is a team that is without their top forward and defenseman. This team has played extremely well. The only thing they need is consistent goaltending.

He has had a lot of scoring chances, but unfortunately no goals. I don't think Sully is high on him, so he's buried with him Blandisi.

boston, nyi, florida, washington, tampa, carolina, toronto, and if montreal adds one or two small pieces they're in. philly has a outside shot. you heard it here first. it's time to rebuild for pitt. your time is over!

the top 7 teams in the east are better than pitt even with sid.

and fyi, " literally skating circles around them" your fandom has gotten the better of you. you can blame your goalie all you want. murray isn't bad, the team is brittle in front of him. if they stay healthy they have a shot at 7 or 8th place. it's time to be realistic with your team.

"The team is brittle in front of him." The team gives up very few high danger chances a game. Watch the game vs the Bruins and Islanders. It was an example of how they played in the 2016 playoffs. Too many people forget that championship and downplay the brilliance of that team. If the Pens suffer more injuries to key players, then they will not make the playoffs. But if they get healthy and play the way they did vs BOS and NYI, then they are the team to beat.
